Day Off Helps With Wang?
With the rain out today, here is our current rotation schedule:
Tuesday: Pettitte
Wednesday: Chamberlain
Thursday: Off
Friday: Sabathia
Saturday: Burnett
Sunday: Pettitte
Monday: Chamberlain
Tuesday: Wang?
Assuming that the Yankees postpone the missed A’s game until later in the season, this off day seems fortuitous for the team. The Yankees get to line up their top-3 starters against the Red Sox, and Wang doesn’t really get skipped. He just gets pushed back. Even better, Wang last pitched on April 18th. Tuesday is the 28th. The Yankees could retroactively DL him if his extra day off bullpen session looks poor, and he would only miss 1 start while fixing things in the minors.
Who would replace him? Hughes is scheduled to start on April 22nd and 27th. He would probably be the best choice. Kennedy and Aceves line up less well.

EJ, I would have to believe Chamberlain would pitch on Friday and Sabathia would throw on regular rest (Wednesday). I know that would result in Sabathia missing the Red Sox series and Chamberlain pitching in Fenway, but if anyone’s going to pitch on seven days rest it would be Joba, not CC.
I meant to say Saba would throw CLOSE to regular rest which is Wednesday.
That’s not the current rotation. Yankees.com has Sabathia listed to start tomorrow. Sabathia regular day to pitch is Tuesday.
From Pete Abe @ 5 p.m.:
“All we know about the pitching so far is that Andy Pettitte will start tomorrow.”
Tuesday: Pettitte
Wednesday: Sabathia
Thursday: Off
Friday: Chamberlain
Saturday: Burnett
Sunday: Pettitte
Monday: Sabathia
Tuesday: Wang
That is how it would go, unless they want to give Wang off more, in which case probably Aceves goes Tuesday.
ugh, TMG has been bad, so far (10.00 ERA). I’d much rather see Hughes or IPK if they can arrange it, unless Aceves works his way out of his troubles.
If Hughes is coming up I want it to be for good or for at least an extended period of time. And I just can’t see that being the case right now, plus I’d rather have him continue to log innings while working on his change/cutter in AAA.
If they need a spot start I’d give it to Kennedy at this point.
Exactly, I dont want Hughes doing one start, all it can do is hurt him. Same with Kennedy, which is why I listed Aceves.
That’s exactly how I had it in my head, Moshe.
Joba gets extra rest, Sabathia is closer to reg. rest which would have been tomorrow and the pitching matchups are still strong for the Boston series.
Pete Abe says makeup date will be sometime in July
I still like the idea of putting Sabathia against the Red Sox. One way or another, someone is getting an inordinate amount of rest. I can see the argument for resting Chamberlain, given that we’re trying to limit his starts.
