Tonight’s lineups:

YANKEES
Gardner LF
Ichiro RF
Teixeira 1B
Cano 2B
Ibanez DH
Martin C

As you can see, Joe Girardi went with the “let’s try this and see if it works” type of lineup. I like it and think it’s pretty ballsy.

Go Yankees!

  1. Yankee Medium says:

Using the last of my tea leaves to determine the results of the game I ran into a problem. When I went to read them they were in braille. As I ran my hand across them to read the message it became blurred.

  2. ChrisGuitars says:

I like it except for the fact that Nunez playing shortstop scares the hell out of me. Why not ARod at short? He may not have the range of Nunez but at least if the ball is hit to him he will catch it, and then he will throw it within range of the first baseman. I predict that the Nunez choice at shortstop will bite us in the ass tonight at some point. ARod is hitting Verlander incredibly well this year, and his last two at-bats In this series haven’t sucked. He may actually be coming around. I think that Alex is being made the scapegoat by the organization. What else would explain them going after him, and ignoring all the other non-hitters (Excluding Swisher removed for tonight).

  3. Phil C says:

Love that line up. Nunez, Gardner, Itchy. Looks like speed and small ball are Girardi’s plan for tonight.

    REMEMBER ATLANTA!!

  4. Phil C says:

Yankee lefties are not getting a lot of strikes from Verlander. As with everyone else in the postseason he is pitching them away.

  5. smurfy says:

Phil seems to be hitting his spots pretty well, not overthrowing.

  6. smurfy says:

    C’mon, Chavez!

  7. Phil C says:

Finally, at least a few guys were trying to go the other way on Verlander the first time through the lineup.

    • smurfy says:

yeah, between all the articles’ confirmation, your observation was apt enough that it should have been announced in the Yankee dugout.

  8. Professor Longnose says:

I always wondered what baseball was like in the dead-ball era.

  9. Professor Longnose says:

    Nice play by Chavez.

  10. Professor Longnose says:

Hmm. Very little dirt around the foul lines in the infield at Comerica. I never noticed that before.

  11. Phil C says:

Why are they pitching to Miggy?

  12. smurfy says:

Has Phil thrown a good changeup, that you noticed? I’m surprised they are not walking Cabrera. Thinking Phil might not have a good weapon for the lefty.

  13. Phil C says:

Gardner needs to bunt. Then steal. Then hit & run with Itchy!

  14. smurfy says:

Good slappin’ Ichi! We got a baserunner.

  15. smurfy says:

Can anyone read Verlander’s pitch count? TBS seems to think everyone has a 60″ widescreen – I can’t see the count ( nor wide pitches on their k-zone.

Can’t trust my judgement, but it seemed the ump was giving V quite a bit on the outside, to Robinson, for one. And is skinny on the other side (for Phil).

  16. Phil C says:

I guess that was Hughes’ obligatory HR for the game.

  17. Phil C says:

The Yankees have the luck of the Kennedy’s. I hate even thinking what’s wrong with Hughes.

  18. Professor Longnose says:

    Oh, well. Wait ’til 2018.

  19. Professor Longnose says:

Sterling saying the report is that it’s Hughes’ back.

  20. smurfy says:

It’s a Tiger Party. Darling and Smoltz are passing out free fizzies!

  21. Phil C says:

I know the Tigers have two big bats. But the decision should be that Cabrera will not be the one to beat them. I’m not one who is quick to criticize the manager, but Girardi made a BIG mistake pitching to Cabrera with an open base.

  22. Phil C says:

smurfy, you should set up a syndicate and buy whatever part has Kay’s contract and then fire him.

  23. Phil C says:

Girardi’s strategy: Make a ton of pitching changes so that the inning last as long as possible and see if Verlander tightens up in the cold.

  24. Phil C says:

That’s now 18 innings since the Yankee’s last scored. Of the 27 innings in this series, the Yankees only scored in one.

  25. Phil C says:

Has the Professor taken a vow of silence until 2018?

  26. Phil C says:

If St.L beats the Giants, then the two teams with the fewest wins making the playoffs play the WS!!!!!!!!!

Thank you This Bud’s NOT for You!

  27. Phil C says:

Great DP to overcome some sketchy pitching.

  28. smurfy says:

Well, isn’t that nice. A hardy smash, intercepted at third, passed Chavez to Cano, and lo! Miggy’s done, too.

  29. Phil C says:

Here’s what I think happens. Joba, D-Rob, and Sori close out the game. But the Yanks will tie it at 2-2. And Lowe will have to take the mound at some point in extra innings.

  30. Phil C says:

Tex tried to go the other way? Or late on a FB?

  31. Phil C says:

Why has Itchy not tried to steal?

  32. smurfy says:

can’t figure it. That’s twice. Injury?

    • Phil C says:

I’m baffled. Just plain baffled. When I saw that lineup I thought the Yanks were going to be bunting for base hits and running their collective asses off.

  33. Phil C says:

When Granderson comes up I’d bring in CC as a PH.

  34. Professor Longnose says:

Verlander’s been good but not great. He only has 3 Ks, and he’s been running up the count to a lot of hitters. But the Yankees just can’t hit the damn ball.

  35. Phil C says:

Notice how Garndy slide rather than dove for that ball?

  36. smurfy says:

Nunie, Gardner and Ichi start the fur flying in the 9th.

  37. Phil C says:

Well, at least the guy with the hits tonight is due up in the 9th.

  38. Phil C says:

    Noon-E, Noon-E

  39. smurfy says:

    way to knock it, Nunie!

  40. Professor Longnose says:

All right, start bunting for hits now.

  41. Phil C says:

Breaks a string of 20 scoreless innings.

  42. smurfy says:

Fear of Ichi sent scatchy to the showers.

  43. Professor Longnose says:

At least the 9th is interesting.

  44. Professor Longnose says:

    Good night.

  45. Phil C says:

    So close, yet so far

  46. Phil C says:

Now they need to seek REVENGE for 2004!

  47. Phil C says:

    Chat y’all tomorrow.

  48. So the Yanks can win the ALCS if the starting pitching throw perfect games.

  49. Hector says:

I can’t believe that this team can not hit the damn ball they had verlander on the ropes all game with 3 and 0 and when he threw a perfect strike all they did was groundout or a pop out unbelievable I have never witnessed this in my entire life its sickening why always wait to the last inning I can’t take it anymore someone or some people have to go granderson, Kevin long someone has to getting the blame for this embarrassment
