ALCS Game 4: Let’s Try This Again
Take 2: CC Sabathia versus Max Scherzer.
Scherzer is awful against lefty hitters. And that works out well because the Yankees have to win, Yankees have to hit, and the Yankees lineup is stacked with lefties. Honestly, if the team breaks out of an offensive slump today, there might actually be a chance to win a few ALCS games. For now, let’s win today.
Ichiro Suzuki LF
Nick Swisher RF
Robinson Cano 2B
Mark Teixeira 1B
Raul Ibanez DH
Eric Chavez 3B
Russell Martin C
Brett Gardner CF
Eduardo Nunez SS
The game starts at 4:00 on TBS. GO YANKEES!

Is it my imagination, or do the TBS announcers not like the Yankees?
I really like Schmoltz, but Darling is obnoxious. Many ex-players hate the Yankees.
To turn a phrase, come on Yanks ride CC into a game 5!
They were saying on MLBN that Leyland says he received a lineup card yesterday that had A-rod batting 6th. Then they changed the lineup.
Kevin Long fixed everyone today. Cool.
And the team batting average for the game starts off at .000.
I didn’t see a noticeable difference in approach from Swisher or Cano.
But they were much more relaxed after they struck out.
I guess I’d rather lose 2-1 than 15-1, but these low-scoring losses are really hard to take.
Well, that’s the game.
The Yanks WILL come back! There WILL be a game 5!
By the way, I’m VERY certain that either I’m optimistic or delusional.
Well, that’s different! Go, Yanks!!
Lets go Yankees!!
Beginning to look like Girardi should have started Nix at 3B. Although it looks like the decision to sit A-Rod was as much Cashman’s as Girardi.
CC doesn’t look as sharp as he did in his last two starts. I hope that changes soon– er, IMMEDIATELY.
He should have pitched in game 3.
Yup. Normally Girardi’s philosophy is today’s game, not tomorrow’s. But that decision to use him in game 4 on normal rest was contrary to that philosophy. Now if the series goes 7 games, they only get one CC start.
Game 7 most likely won’t matter at this point. But down 2-0 and not hitting, you have to take your best chance to winning. Not that even that would have likely mattered, as they only scored 1 run.
I hate to break the news to Shmoltz, but there aren’t a lot of 3-run homers during the regular season.
These guys are so stupid, it’s unbelievable. OK, so only 1 team in the last few years to lead the league in HRs won the World Series. How many that have led in batting avg have won? Or sac bunts? Or any one stat?
No team has ever won a WS after the leading the league in losses.
FINALLY an SB!!!
Let’s go, I-chi-ro!
OMG!!! Itchy took a walk!!!!!!!
Swisher looks horrible.
Get ‘im, Swish!
great pitch
Nelson has NOT been consistent in his strike zone – for either pitcher.
I don’t think what happens in the game much affects what they say. They just run through their usual script.
I do like Smoltz when he talks strictly about pitching.
it’s UNFORTUNATE when gets too schmoltzy, tho.
Tex shoulda charged. He let that one play him.
These vacuous inning long interviews drive me crazy! That’s what they have pre- and post- game shows for!! Call the frigging game!
Two bad fielding plays by the Yanks, and neither by Noon-E!
How about some more Justin Verlander? It’s not like there’s a baseball game going on to hold our interest.
Now the Yankees are just trying to piss me off.
I know it’s close to Halloween, but who dressed up early in Tex’s uniform and sneaked onto the field?
Dick Stuart.
Dr. Strangeglove
Well, I guess it was Nunez’ turn!
Now they’ve given the BPs 6 outs this inning.
Let’s go Yankees!
Team Batting Average for the Game (T-BAG) holding steady at .000.
Gotta leave the computer for a while. Be back later.
Your keyboard thanks you before you take out your frustrations on it.
Strikeout % by Yanks, 53.8%
We better bust out soon.
Game is definitely slipping away.
Unbelievable!!!!!! I don’t care if there was a runner on 1st, they should NOT be pitching to Miggy. I’d rather pitch to Fielder, especially left-on-left,
fudge ripple
That’s the game!!!
ain’t heard no fat lady singing, but the Yankees will hit or not.
She’s doing her scales!
Bring in Robertson.
NOW!!!!
The game is already out of hand, Girardi should have brought in D-Rob or even Sori. They should not be going with anyone other than their best right now. That’s not a knock on Eppley, just the fact that they need their best right now.
Agreed…
Joe’s priority was someone he could get ready fast, I think.
We’ll see if that’s right by who comes out for the bot of the 5th. If the Yankee batters can foul off enough pitches they could get to the pen for the 7th. Gives them 3 innings to come back.
Eppley looked pretty good, probably has alternatives lined up now for as soon as he puts a man on.
or two.
Eppley is slicing in on Cabrera. Awfully surprised he was giving him anything.
The scabs.
remember how Sori needs the tension of a save opportunity? Joe prob fears that bringing in the guys who don’t usually do that will put them off their game.
Eppley and Rapada handled them pretty well. Not that it wasn’t dicey due to their luck.
Where’d that mojo go? Gotta stir some up with bats.
WTF is Girardi saving Robertson & Soriano for? They’re both rested and could pitch 2+ innings each. And there is still Joba.
WALK CABRERA!!!!!!!!!
Yanks have more errors than hits, walks, and runs COMBINED!
Hits + walks now = errors
Should have typed:
hit + walk = errors
Gotta love Noon-E’s speed.
They’re stirring up a brew.
I hope it’s a Fall brew, not a winter one.
a big brew of piping hot mojo, that’s what we need.
Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn, and caldron bubble.
An RISP hit by Swish!!!!! YEAH! Come on Cano, keep it going.
A run. Ah, feels good.
Scherzer done good, cool comebacker, fader in to lefties, as well as a two seam-like fade on the outside (lefty) corner. Smylie – watch out! The Yanks are gonna look to put their boots on, and start a-kicking.
Come on Alex, do your impersonation of Ibby!
Wipe that Smyly off his face!!
next inning
next inning and next inning and next inning
creeps in this petty pace from game to game
Sorry ‘speare man
‘speare man could sure turn a phrase, and turn an idea to a word.
It’s hockey season. A kick save, and a beaut!
Ha, attaboy, Joba! That underhand strike did wonders for my pulse rate.
Come on Yanks, just 2 runs per inning!!
Does Leyland get a cut of the extra ads, or what?
alright, Nixy, that’s good. Baserunners.
A leadoff base runner!!
I’d rather have Martin in the game.
me, too. Felt it was the wrong spot for Curtis.
Now they have to use Stewart and there’s a chance he comes up in the 9th and they can’t pinch hit for him.
that swing was checked. He twisted to get away from the ball.
the kicking is going the wrong way.
I guess Girardi has given up on the game.
John Sterling did in the 5th inning. He and Waldman were talking about who stays and who goes for next year.
damn. Who goes?
Well, he was hoping Ichiro would stay, so take what he says with that in mind.
Sell the team to Rush Limbaugh. That way he’ll get ride of all the lefties.
Nixy makes a fine utility man, great leather work, tho the throw was a bit lusty. (Nice Tex)
I like him. I like Dickerson, too. Although maybe if I had to watch them every day, I wouldn’t like them for long.
Men at some time are masters of their fates:
The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars,
But in ourselves, that we are underlings.
Well, if the Yanks go out, at least we went out quoting the ‘speare man!
…a poor player, that struts and frets his hour upon the stage, and then is heard no more…
You can’t get rid of me that easy!
3 more outs to work with.
Yankee-er things have happened.
So much for Robertson.
Hey, maybe they’ll be so humiliated by this series they’ll decide to blow off the cap over the winter.
If Sori goes, I hope they try to get Madsen on the cheap.
One chance for all.
Go Yankees!
Double digit runs here.
Come on Yanks. Duplicate the come back vs the Red Sluts
I was just thinking of that game. Two 7-run innings.
In honor of The Mick.
That was the moment of glory.
If Rodriguez hits a home run here, Yankee fans will not feel better about him.
I wonder if we’ve seen A-Rod’s last AB as a Yankee?
Gentlemen, it is time to hibernate ’till spring comes and once again breathes life into pennant hopes.
Damn, no baseball for 4 months!!!
Yeah, I don’t mind losing so much as having the season end.
Congratulations to the Tigers. Win the World Series.
Detroit needs a big boost.
I second that emotion!
Nah. Bleep ‘em up the wazoo.
I can’t believe how hard the Yanks battled in Sept and against the O’s, and the first three games, then fell apart today.
Well, they didn’t get gypped by a bad call, they didn’t run into bad luck. They stunk. They deserve to go home. At least the hitters do. The pitchers deserved better.
yep
I hope Cashman makes some exciting trades this off season. And a few cool FA signings.
Rodriguez for Heath Bell and what’s-his-name.
I’m off to do dinner. Chat y’all in Spring Training.
But I’ll keep in touch via e-mail, especially if some exciting Yankee happenings occur.
Until we meet again!!
I can’t believe I’m signing off with Roy Rogers.
Trigger for Manager!
See ya, Phil and the honorable if politically blighted, Professor.
Thanks for sticking around everyone. I maintain that this was still a great season, just a slump and good opposing scouting reports killed them in a best of 7 series.
Just a slump? Maybe. But also a frustrating inability to adapt to a slump, as a team.
interesting note, Prof. I’d wager the loss of Jeter as leader was a latter problem. Intangibles, again, but I guess mgmt needs to recognize.
Yeah, Michael. The Orioles and the Tigers pitched very effectively. Those scouting reports probably had them scotched.
Strong season, though. I hope mgmt sees we need to maintain a diversified offense, the key to the slumps.
Get rid of everybody!
Except Nix.
oh, Michael Kay also said “I think the Yankees definitely want Ichiro back. He revitalized his career.”
OK. Feel free to e-mail. You, too, smurfy.
