How crazy was today’s game? Raul Ibanez, who came into the game in the fifth inning, finished 3-4 with two home runs and a double.
How crazy was today’s game? The A’s scored four runs – including hitting back-to-back home runs and three total – in the top of the 13th inning to break it open, and they didn’t win.
How crazy was today’s game? The Yankees were down 9-5 in the bottom of the 13th and tied it up with three singles in a row, a wild pitch, a sac fly and a home run.

So the Yankees seem to be exacting a little bit of payback for the four-game sweep at the hands of the A’s in July. With two walk-off victories in a row, what’s in store for tomorrow’s game? Both bullpens are taxed so both teams are probably hoping their starters will pitch deep into the ballgame.

Raul Ibanez’ performance today displays that stats represent history – only. May be the best predictor, but they do not constrain human potential.
He was 0-18 coming, right?

Amazing game. Depending on who you listen to, it was either the first or second time in franchise history that they overcame a deficit that large that late in a game. Freddy Garcia is tough to watch when he’s going well, so when he gave up the back to back dingers I was certain the game was over. And given that it had happened so infrequently (and the chart above) that was a safe assumption on my part.
And then this happened, which is why we watch baseball. Every so often, just when you think you have this game figured out, you see something like this. It’s a cliche, but baseball is different because there’s no clock to run out. You have to record that last out.
Can someone do some research and find out when the last time Jeter had a “walk off” hit?
I know he never got a pie in the face from AJ in his 3 years here even though he had many chances. I don’t recall any this year. That’s 4 years at least!
