I hope everyone enjoyed their Labor Day weekend despite the Yankees losing 3 of their last 4 games. The good news is that that they still have control of the AL East, injured players are beginning to return, and they still control their own destiny. Here are some links as we await a Freddy Garcia v. Alex Cobb duel at Tropicana Field tonight.

  • If you’re wondering why CC Sabathia hasn’t looked sharp, Mike Axisa at River Ave Blues wonder if he’s still injured. The elbow injury that cost him a DL stint ealier this year may still be affecting the southpaw, and it’s unfortunately showing up on the field in lack of control.
  • Over at FanGraphs, they have a hard time writing about the Orioles. Combine there negative run differential and accumulated WAR, and Baltimore should simply not be in the position they’re in.
  • If you read Baseball Prospectus, or if you chat on Twitter, you should be familiar with Kevin Goldstein. This weekend, he landed a job with the Houston Astros as Coordinator of Pro Scouting. He isn’t the first one to make the move from BP to Houston, earlier this year Mike Fast was also hired by the same team. Big congratulations to Goldstein.
  • And finally, another goodbye to Yankee beat writer Marc Carig of The Star-Ledger, who has taken a job with Newsday to cover the Mets. He was one of the best and most interactive Yankee reporters, so it’s not an easy loss.

  1. Rob says:

CC wasn’t on the DL twice because of the elbow. Once was the groin injury.
