Teixeira MRI Update, Babe Ruth Pitching In Pinstripes, And Jeter’s Gift Baskets
No Yankee game tonight, but I do have some links.
- Jeff Zimmerman takes a look at Mark Teixeira’s famous slide from Saturday night. He believes it would have been faster for him to just keep running to firstbase, but that’s hard to ask of a player with calf issues.
- In other Teixeira news, the Yankees announced the results of his MRI today, and called it an irritation of his calf strain. I suppose it could have been much worse, but he’ll still miss 10-14 days. With 22 games left in the season, there’s still a chance he can make a big impact before this season ends. Hopefully the Yankees create a big enough lead to give him additional rest in the last couple of weeks though. To replace the first baseman, the Yankees have called up Melky Mesa.
- Our own Brad V. has a word on what the middle relief has done recently. He makes the case that new guys like Cory Wade, Justin Thomas, and Adam Warren should be given more of a chance in the coming days.
- Over at It’s About The Money, Josh Kramer wonders if Russell Martin has been worth the $7.5 million he’s making this season. Personally, I think the poor guy has been down on his luck. He still has a month, and perhaps the playoffs to redeem himself.
- Frank Jackson at The Harball Times muses on Babe Ruth’s time as a pitcher in New York.
- At Beyond the Boxscore, James Gentile broke down how pitchers and hitters fair with men on base. There are some really interesting numbers in there that show how things like shifts affect BABIP depending on the base state.
- Finally, NotGraphs has reason to believe that Derek Jeter has expanded his gift basket roster. Go check it out, maybe you made the team.
Feel free to use this as your open thread, and enjoy the first day of Monday Night Football.

- Most poker sites open to US players also provide online casinos accepting USA players. A good example of this is BetOnline.com, where you can play 3D casino games, bet on sports or play poker from anywhere in the United States.

What’s up, this weekend is good in favor of me, as this time i am reading this fantastic educational article here at my residence.
You can never go wrong with groumet food and drink gift baskets – not with so many to choose from! If an elaborate, expensive champagne and caviar basket is outside your budget, go for simple with Shari’s Berries, or a single bottle of Dom Perignon with some chocolate dipped apricot. These combinations are far more affordable, but speak just as eloquently to your good taste, which people will want to associate themselves with.,-
