No Yankee baseball tonight, it’s the last off day of the regular season. As we await Andy Pettitte‘s return to the rotation tomorrow, here are some links to feed your hunger.
- After Pettitte’s recent words about returning for 2013, Matt Klaassen of FanGraphs looks at the pitchers who survived playing through their age 40-41 seasons.
- Mike Clark at The Hardball Times muses on Roger Clemens‘ return to baseball next year, and believes that the plan is largely motivated by ego.
- Our very own Brad V. at An A-Blog For A-Rod makes the case to leave Brett Gardner on the Disabled List. I have to agree that the team appears to be rushing him through his recovery.
- Mike Axisa released his 2012 Minor League Awards today. Tyler Austin took home Player of the Year, while Nik Turley took Pitcher of the Year. There are a slew of other awards given out, but I’d just like to point out that I liked him before it was cool.
- Baseball America held their own Minor League honors today, and built their 2012 MiLB All-Star Team. Gary Sanchez made the team as the starting catcher, although there was no Tyler Austin to speak of.
- Finally, with all the talk about RISP-fail and shutdown innings with this team, I thought Bryan Grosnick’s work at Beyond The Boxscore would be much appreciated. Believe it or not, not a single Yankee hitter made the unclutch list, although they did place one pitcher. Hiroki Kuroda ranked as the 6th most unclutch pitchers in 2012.
There’s some Monday Night Football to look forward to tonight as the Broncos take on the Falcons. Also, you can catch the Rays and Red Sox game at 7:10 pm on the MLB Network. Also, if you get MASN or MLB.tv, the Orioles play at 10:10 against the Mariners.
