Game 154: 8 Is The Magic Number
I love this matchup. Phil Hughes in Target Field. Don’t think you could find a better ballpark for him. With the way the bullpen has been used lately, a long outing from Hughes could give a lot of guys a much needed rest. Here’s the lineup.
Derek Jeter SS
Ichiro Suzuki RF
Alex Rodriguez 3B
Robinson Cano DH
Nick Swisher 1B
Curtis Granderson CF
Russell Martin C
Raul Ibanez LF
Jayson Nix 2B
Go Yankees

Canadian birds lead 2-0 in top 6th.
Wow! The anti-Master Card has given up 2 runs in 3 innings!
Two hits, no runs in the first. I hate that.
There you go again!
Yeah, I hate everything. Especially today.
Get out the Voo Doo Doll
I’m hoping for a blow-out because I want to see both Gardner & Aardsma in the game.
Gardner might pinch run in a close game.
It’s twue, it’s twue
This is an old game. Lots of pop ups.
I wonder if Itchy has a raincoat to protect his bats on rainy days.
4-zip, custard.
I guess we were typing that update simultaneously
Frozen Cousins now lead 4-0 bot 7th
Stop talking about Itchy’s bats, there’s a freaking ball game being played!
I second.
What a last road trip for the Yanks, Mini Soda and Frozen Custard!
And Beans.
The beans are home cooking.
Yeeeee Haaaaa!
Yanks gulp first!
Swisher getting hot. And hitting home runs with a guy on first.
And maybe Cano’s breaking out of his slump.
Another shut down fail. But at least Hughes didn’t give up the lead.
Horrible pitcher on the mound, but the Yanks aren’t putting him aaway.
Expect multiple runs in top 6th.
Are you absolutely certain?
Florimon’s 1st major league HR was mummified.
Mum’s the word.
Thought that might go over Span’s head, but it hung up too long.
Maybe Cano IS breaking out.
Bases loaded, 2 0uts, bot 9th in Balt
Everyone in Canada gets a free Frozen Custard!!!
That’s a lot of frozen custard.
Sorry about the top of the 6th. But I’m still VERY certain they’ll score multiple runs then.
A fine pitch from Casey Fien!
Martin made Fien pay!
Wow! On Phil Rizzuto’s b’day I got an email from The Scooter Store!
Ha ha ha ha ha ha.
How much rope you give Phil?
This is the last batter if no out!
Repeat until inning is over!
Why must there be drama in EVERY game?
To keep me miserable. Why else?
I’d go with Joba now.
Lung Disease overtakes Boston!
That’s good. What’s happening to the A’s?
deux-deus, bot neuf
Hughes’ best pitch of the night was his last.
It’s all in the Timex!
If Logan gives up a grand slam, Hughes’ line will look a lot worse.
Ugh. Effing UGH!
Martin’s been having trouble back there lately.
S#@T!!!
Geez, they let the Twins stay in this game.
Hughes did not deserve this tonight!
Michael Kay is saying that Girardi will be second guessed for taking Hughes out. But I think he left him in too long.
I would have taken him out before facing Florimon. But then Hughes struck him out. And with 4 consecutive L’s coming up, Girardi’s more made sense. Logan & Martin did not execute.
Logan hasn’t been great lately, and putting him into a high-leverage situation is dangerous. Anyway, I might have taken Hughes out after the first hit. He just doesn’t do well this late in games, in general.
Disgusting!!! Losing to the Little Gulps is completely uncalled for in this situation!
Why take Hughes out, he’s been better against lefties all year and the next two coming up were 0/6 tonight!
Because he doesn’t do well up around 90-95 pitches, in general, anyway. And with a small lead, I’d rather go to the hot bullpen guy, which is Joba.
How does he not do well, stupid joe always pulls him and let’s the bullpen blow the game!
Hughes’ pitches were missing Martin’s glove by far. He was definitely struggling at the end.
And Logan didn’t miss??
Yes, but that’s on Logan, not Girardi!
Logan hasn’t been pitching good for a while, he’s overused! Besides joe brought him in, so it is on him! That’s what making decisions does!
Come on Yanks. Time to come from behind!
TAO: First your basic argument was Giradri shouldn’t have taken Hughes out. So it’s irrelevant who came in. Now it’s on Girardi for the results! Well then he’s a good manager because they’re in 1st place so he must be making more correct decisions than wrong ones.
Breaking out the rally tissue.
At least get the tying run to the plate.
Jones??
I’m surprised too. Also surprised Nix is left in.
Well, here’s the tying run coming up.
WOW!!! That was a real HIGH pitch Jones hit!
That sucked.
Bye.
Rally tissue fail! I HATE come from ahead losses.
Chat ya tomorrow Professor.
