Yup, we’ll get to see Andy Pettitte take the mound in the first game of a doubleheader today. The Yankees have sorely missed their left handed veteran since June 27th, and Freddy Garcia was hardly a replacement. He’ll be on some sort of pitch count today, so hopefully we get at least 5.0 solid innings pitched. The Blue Jays will send out Henderson Alvarez, who’s having a pretty awful 2012 season. In case you forgot, he’s an extreme contact pitcher with a tendency to generate groundballs.

The game starts at 1:05 PM EST on YES. Go Yankees!

  1. Professor Longnose says:

Can’t believe the Orioles won another extra inning game.

  2. Phil C says:

    Yeah, a double chatter today!

  3. Professor Longnose says:

    Gotta pound the Jays.

  4. Phil C says:

One batter in and Andy looks like he hasn’t missed a beat.

  5. Phil C says:

    Nice, Itchy impersonating Jeter!

  6. Professor Longnose says:

Hit and run!?! What got into this team?

  7. Professor Longnose says:

    Looked misplayed.

  8. Professor Longnose says:

    Hope Swisher is OK.

  9. Professor Longnose says:

Ball beat Cano. I wonder if he was hustling. That was a deep fly.

  10. Professor Longnose says:

Can we count this as a win and move on to the second game?

  11. Phil C says:

Well, 2 runs scored w/o a hit RISP. I’ll take that all day long.

  12. Hawaii Dave says:

    Two singles…a hit n run…a double and a sac fly = 3 runs….I love baseball.

  13. Professor Longnose says:

Andy and Nick get out of it.

  14. Phil C says:

The stands look empty. I guess all them folks with tickets have day jobs.

  15. Phil C says:

Yanks better score plenty of runs (in both games) because they will be using a lot of relievers today.

  16. Phil C says:

If YES combines the pre- and post games today, will it become the Proust game?

  17. Professor Longnose says:

    Oh, that was boneheaded, Swish!

  18. Professor Longnose says:

Andy isn’t really back until he picks someone off.

  19. Professor Longnose says:

Man, Cano’s fielding looks terrible–but gets it done.

  20. Phil C says:

Well at least the one GB they handled that inning was a DP.

  21. Phil C says:

    Run Itchy, run!

  22. Professor Longnose says:

Cano has 6 seasons with 40+ doubles. Who is the only Yankee with 7?

  23. Phil C says:

Oh sweet Jesus, the Yanks need 7 runs right now if Lowe is coming into the game.

  24. Phil C says:

Man, after that 1st inning the Yanks have gone to snoozing at the plate.

  25. Phil C says:

Yeah, 5 innings from Andy. I will absolutely destroy any reliever who blows this win for him!

  26. Professor Longnose says:

Michael Kay asked what starting pitchers do during double headers when they’re not pitching. Someone said they have to cheer on their teammates, and Singleton said they should come out with the pom-poms.

And now I can’t shake the image of CC Sabathia in a cheerleading outfit.

  27. Phil C says:

The Yanks have only one hit the last 4 innings!

  28. Tj says:

    Screw rapada

  29. Phil C says:

Damn, the Yanks could sure use that rain from last night right NOW!

  30. Phil C says:

Why don’t they have cell phones to call the pen? That way the pitching couch could see the guys warming up.

  31. Phil C says:

MLBN is showing the rest of the game, so I don’t have to sit at my computer. YEAH!!

  32. Tj says:

    Y didn’t Lowe keep pitching?

  33. Professor Longnose says:

Phleps is pitching tonight. Matchup looks good for the Yanks (although they always seem to blow matchups that look really good).

  34. Tj says:

I sure hope robertson holds this lead

  35. Tj says:

    Effffffffffffffffff damn you robertson

  36. Phil C says:

Robertson just doesn’t have it today. BJ’s will soon have the lead.

  37. Professor Longnose says:

Girardi took out three guys who were pitching well, but he leaves in Robertson to blow it?

  38. Tj says:

Robertson hungry for his 8th lose

  39. Tj says:

    Thts girardi for u

  40. Professor Longnose says:

What the hell is the matter with Girardi!?!?!?!

  41. Tj says:

Well for starts he cant manage a game

  42. Tj says:

    Brimg in scoriano!

  43. Professor Longnose says:

Soriano for the 4-out save. Please!!

  44. ChrisGuitars says:

Like the Robin last year, likes to put himself in high stress situations. Only difference is, this year he is allowing runs. At least Gerardi finally is making the move.

  45. Phil C says:

I can’t really argue with Girardi’s moves. He made the right ones, it’s up to the pitcher to execute them. Without going to Sori earlier, Robertson is better than the guys left in the pen.

  46. Tj says:

    Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  47. Professor Longnose says:

    Holy bloody Christ!

  48. Phil C says:

    Itchy made that catch interesting.

  49. Professor Longnose says:

5 hits, 2 errors. This team is really pushing it.

  50. Tj says:

I wonder who closes tonight…. Oh wait the yanx don’t believe in consecutive wins

  51. Professor Longnose says:

    A big late run! Woo-hoo!!

  52. Phil C says:

    A Geico run!

  53. Phil C says:

All 7 Yankee hits by the 1,2,3 batters. Zippo Marx after that.

  54. Tj says:

    Ok let’s do this sori!

  55. Tj says:

Ball game over Yankees win theeeeeee Yankees win!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  56. Phil C says:

    Wheeeeew!!

  57. Phil C says:
