The Yankees are off tonight. Boo. So, tonight, let’s do some reading together.

–Our own Stacey Gotsulias penned a takedown of ESPN New York.

–Our good friend Eric Schultz (remember him?) mused on minor league reliever Mark Montgomery.

–Over at RLYW.net, SG had some fun with arbitrary end points regarding Phil Hughes.

–At LoHud, Chad Jennings profiled Ichiro Suzuki‘s transition to left field.

–The Star-Ledger’s Marc Carig ran down the deadline in the Yankee clubhouse.

Moving on to non-Yankee links:

–Over at Firebrand of the AL, Alex Convery reviewed the first 100 days of Bobby Valentine’s tenure with the Red Sox.

And, finally…

–Jeff Sullivan discusses Jesus Montero and his massive platoon split.

    I don’t like off days.

        I’m so bored.

        • Watching Mad Men DVDs. My life is super exciting.

You should keep a copy of the 15-9 comeback win. I watched it during the rain delay a few days ago.

I’m so jealous I was cat sitting that weekend so I didn’t record it.

I hate that it was a Fox game. I want it to be a Yankees Classic.

            • Steph and I were staying at her aunt/uncle’s place on 83rd/Lex and I said, “If the lead gets to five, let’s just go walk around the park.” Sure enough, Freddy did early-season-Freddy things and we walked around the park for a bit. We’re in a Duane Reade buying stuff for the weekend and we see they’re pulling it close and managed to get back into the apartment (third floor of a walk-up) just in time for the huge inning.

I was watching it live and everything started happening as they cut away to Humber’s perfecto. On the one hand, I was happy for Humber but on the other hand, I was like, ‘PUT THE YANKEE GAME BACK ON!!’

God, that game was hilarious. The Yankees totally ruined their 100th anniversary weekend.

            • Professor Longnose says:

The best part of the game is that the Fox morons switched to the Humber perfect game just before the Yankees started to rally, so that you got Swisher’s grand slam without any announcers at all.

            • Professor Longnose says:

Don’t they sometimes put the MLBTV feed on Yankees classic with the radio announcing dubbed in?

  3. Michael Eder says:

What do you guys think Chase Headley is doing right now?

  4. Joe says:

Stacey: LOVED the espn new york article… I had the same feelings regarding the Chamberlain story he wrote. If A-Rod were to hit a walk off in game 7 of the world series and Chamberlain got the win, their heads would explode. The thing I don’t understand about the hate on A-Rod on that site is who really is an alternative option to replace him at 3rd? They also hate on Tex quite a bit. Granted, his average isn’t where it needs to be, but he hits 30 home runs a year and is a solid defender. And always hustles.
