This is a Big series (that’s not as big as a BIG series, but bigger than a big series) for the Yanks. Based on the Native Americans’ starting pitching, all three games are winnable and need to be won.
Tomorrow may be the most critical day for the Yanks depending on how CC’s elbow feels.
By the way, I am having problems again with the site. Very slow to update and I once lost the connection.
Of they lose tonight, will tomorrow be BIG?
Maybe BIg
I think the Yankees could use a touch of panic.
OK, not really panic, but maybe some passion.
A passion tonic panic?
They’re saying on MLBN that Gonzalez & Punto have been scratched from the Red Sucks line up, Loney from the Artful’s.
I listened to the end of yesterday’s Sockholes game on the radio. Wild game. Must really have put the nail in the coffin of RSN hopes.
Hmm…trade brewing, I guess is the supposition.
Would be nice if they didn’t let this pitcher off the hook.
Problem is that Chavez is in a slump. But he was so hot it was unsustainable.
And also Martin stinks.
Pathetic. Three hits, two for extra bases, and 2 BBs and ONLY one run. This does NOT bode well.
The Yankees are the Phil Hughes of MLB teams. They can’t finish off games.
“It’s twue, it’s twue.” Tweety Bird
You will sweep the hapless Cleveland Indians, right Yankees? Unlike the CWS, the Indians are a trash team, and I expect that the Yankees sweep. If you want to hold the AL East lead, Beat Cleveland! It’s too close for comfort, Tampa is pressuring the Yankees, and the Rays’ in the rear-view mirror isn’t shrinking & they are sneaking up on NYY. The AL East lead is only 2.5, and quite frankly, I’m a little bit concerned. Now a sweep vs Cleveland will be what the doctor ordered. Hey Yankees, you wanna play like chumps like you did at Chicago, and let the AL East lead shrink more? Or will you go out there & BEAT CLEVELAND? The ball is in your court, Yankees. It’s your decision. It’s your own destiny.
I agree with what you’ve said. Except I see the lead as 3 games. Only loses count. You can make up a win, but not a loss.
You CAN make it up, but you don’t always. So it counts.
How can you make up a loss?
You can’t. So a loss counts more than a win. But a win counts. For a team playing .600 baseball, it counts 60% as much as a loss. That’s not the same as not counting.
OK, I see what you meant.
Well, here’s to making the lead go back up to 6 after this weekend (If the Rays decide to stop winning hopefully)
The Rays only play today & tomorrow. No game Sunday because of the RNC, so the most the lead could be is 5 games. But I’d certainly love to see that.
Very nice 1st inning by CC. Good velocity.
Yes, and good movement.
Come on @#%&ing Yankee batters. Turn Kluber into the clubee.
Where did he hit Jeter? I’m following on GameDay.
Pitch knocked Jeter’s helmet off.
Ugh. But I guess he’s ok?
Hit the brim of his helmet.
He’s on the bases, so I guess he’s alright.
Bases loaded one out–the kiss of death.
The last thing the Indians need is to tick off an already ticked Yankees team.
Two bases loaded blown opportunities. That significantly impacts the chances of winning this game.
It’s depressing.
My reaction face to Cano GIDP.

You have me giggling hysterically.
That nails it.
The replay of the pitch that hit Jeter is on GameDay. It looked like he was saying “Don’t do that.” That pitch looked straight. I wonder if CC will hit someone.
The major league record for runners left on base by one team in a game is 20, by the Yankees against the Red Sox on September 21, 1956. They outhit Boston 15-14 but lost 13-7.
They’re on pace to shatter that record. What really upsets me is that the Yanks should have a sizable lead that would keep CC out of stressful innings, but they don’t.
Wow–The Red Sox could be making a huge move:
6:50 p.m. EDT update: Yahoo! Sports’ Jeff Passan says the Red Sox and Dodgers have the framework in place and believes that something is going get done. The Boston Globe’s Peter Abraham says the sides have two possibilities in play, the likely nine- or 10-player trade that includes Adrian Gonzalez, Carl Crawford and Josh Beckett, as well as a somewhat smaller trade that excludes Crawford.
Can you say, “Salary dump?” Of course I bet the Red Sluts would be getting some prime prospects. And they’d have a ton of dollars for free agent signings this off season. Swisher to play 1st?
I don’t think they can both dump salary and get prospects. Shouldn’t it be one or the other?
I’d expect Beckett to bounce back big in the NL.
They probably would have to cover some salary to get the best prospects. But among Gonzalez, Crawford & Becket that’s, what, $55+M a year?
HardBallTalk has some discussion of this in 2 or 3 posts.
Damn, Studio 54 has now retired 7 straight.
This game is really annoying me.
Damn. Gone are the perfect game, no-hitter, and the SO.
Grrrrrr…..
Two outs. Let’s see if CC hits O ya coma va.
More RISPFail.
The weird thing is prior to the AS break they had a better record with a lower RISP. 52-33, .230.
Since AS break: 20-19. .302
Weird, but true.
Someone should put that stat on the You Can’t Predict Baseball website.
http://www.youcantpredictbaseball.com/
Constipation, is that what’s troubling ya, fella. Well sit right down over there. Close the door. There’s prunes and a magazine.
Is that set to a Carly Simon tune?
No, I was trying to hit the “… is that what’s bothering you, booby?” note.
Though, maybe she could sing it at nursing homes.
At 67, maybe she does.
but you missed the point. How do you feel when you leave the bases loaded continually, booby?
I was just about to say that this at bat might possibly kill me, but fortunately it was a quick out.
Murder She Batted!
Wheeeew. CC had be scared there for a minute.
Martin got a hit? Thank God I was sitting down.
He has been a major problem this year. Been waiting for his one good month and it never came.
Probably can’t even pick out enough games this year to make a good month.
Damn but they’re making it tough on CC tonight!
And us!
Both of the Yankee pursuers are winning.
CC got out of the jam. But that’s another stressful inning caused by the Yanks’ batters’ failures.
Nick’s the whole offense.
A little help from Jeter.
So far, Jeter & Swisher 5 for 6. Rest of lineup 3 for 22.
I wonder if Tex’s wrist is a problem. Not hitting since returning to lineup.
Cano was swinging to left very well. He may spring out.
CC needs a quick shut-down inning. Turn over the lead to D-Rob and Sori.
The Alphas have tied the Batoidea.
And gone ahead in the top of the 8th!
CC is out for the 8th????
That was an incredible performance by CC after that time off.
He was an Ace when the Yankees really needed him.
What is happening? A Sori melt-down?
Not a meltdown yet, but he’s not looking good.
Struck him out on a pitch at the shoulders.
I don’t care if it’s ugly as long as Sori gets the save.
Any pitch now can be a win, a loss, or a tie.
Nice going Sori, put the winning run on base.
This is too aggravating a game to be playing against a crummy team.
Agreed! First two inning should have blown it open.
[Exhale]
Wheeeeew!
In TB, bottom of 9th, 2 out, tying run on 2nd.
Keeping fingers crossed.
Oak-LAND wins! Lead back to 4 games.
Chat at ya tomorrow Professor.

Damn, that game aged you!
