Game 121: Put Beckett Out Of His Misery
The Rays continued their hot streak today by finishing up a four game sweep of the Angels, putting Tampa Bay just 4.5 games in back of the Yankees. The team just doesn’t seem to lose. The Yankees have no choice but to put Josh Beckett and the Red Sox out of their misery tonight.

Damn, my cell phone is working but no Tex messages for three days now. I’m feeling lonely & disconnected.
Yeah, they have to be able to beat mediocre teams.
I bet Ernie Banks is watching the Pitt-StL game right now!
yeah, probably, as a loyal Leaguer that knew those teams. Your point? (other than that one, which is pretty good.)
19th inning, it’s like 2 games in one.
oh, double the fun! (Doublemint gum)
Drive Beckett out of the game in the first. Pound the twit.
Healthy double over young Ellsbury’s haid.
Cano has been looking really, really bad lately.
Hey, Granderson has gone back to hitting doubles.
nothing to snort at. He was right on it, too, though it was inside the sweet spot, and would have been a jam job if Beckett’s fb didn’t drift into the middle.
Well, they got some good swings vs. Beckett. But only one run!
Yeah, with the 3-0 counts it could have been more. But let’s not get too crazy. They jumped on top. Now they just have to outplay them the rest of the way.
I think this is a fairly important (not critical) game for the Yanks because of the way the Rays are playing right now. Don’t want them to think they can make an easy move on the Yanks.
Agreed. Can’t criticize the way they’ve been playing lately, but if they lose 2 of 3 to the Red Sox at home, I would be able to.
After that throw by Lavarnway anything a Yank gets on first they should run!
That was an incredibly bad throw.
Imagine what it could be like when rushed and under pressure. (Think Billy Joel)
OMG! Oki-san got Ciriaco out!
Kuroda looking like…Kuroda.
Cute one
Gee, Jee-ter, did the phrase come from you?
Time for Cano to start looking like Cano.
He often looks terrible and then suddenly gets that great swing in. I hope it’s NOW!
Now he decides to take a pitch?
Double steal! Now come on, Cano, get the bat on the ball and get at least a run in.
I hope they keep that up all night.
Now a chance for Granderson to do it.
Wild pitch! That’ll work, too!
That may be a passed ball. It bounced, but it was at Lavarnway.
It’s beginning to look like Beckett’s settling in.
Maybe not.
They’re not really hitting. Kuroda is going to have to keep it up.
Sorry, what I meant to say was, “Now the Yankees should start hitting some home runs.”
Ichi leans into one.
Hit it entirely with his upper body.
gets great leverage, just difficult for most humans.
Ciriaco is NOT going to drive in this run.
Oki-san gets him twice. Kuroda for Cy Young.
nope, Hiro’s too tricky.
hope Stacey enjoyed that.
Ichiro’s OBP with the Yankees is .326. That’s downright acceptable.
Jee, Jeets, that’s three innings you’ve led off with a hit. Get another run, old boy.
Man, you gotta hand it to Jeter.
Peck away–another inning, another run.
Beckett’s pitch count is getting up there.
C’mon, C’no.
They should do that double steal thingy again.
Good idea.
The hell with “At least get a run in.” Slam it, Chavez!
Darn.
Chavey had a pitch to hit. Golly gosh darn it.
ow. That hurt, down the middle. Too hard a swing, or he couldn’t believe what he saw, and guessed it would break down.
Double darn. Should have gone with, “At least get a run in.”
Greed is good!
You Randian.
Huh?
Ayn Rand. Patron saint of the greed-is-good crowd.
“Chinese Taipei”? Does that mean they are joining the Reds?
Taipei is the capital of Taiwan.
They’re just being PC since China considers Taiwan a province.
the Little League baseball was a feel-good reason, 40 years ago, for our opposition to China. Can’t let those Reds take them over, they are business men and their kids play baseball.
But they probably make all of the equipments and clothing used in the games.
so we couldn’t make any money on ‘em, so fug ‘em? We call the Chinese Teipei, see oh Great Dragon?
this is the third straight game where Kuroda has pitched masterfully.
through 6, he’s stifled the Sox and allowed 2 baserunners
He’s looking great, no question.
Ichiro turns into Gojira!
Bat Itchy clean-up!
It doesn’t matter. Wherever anyone hits, the home runs are all solo.
Looked like a little more hip on that one.
he certainly has a variety of approaches.
looks like either a 50 game suspension or we can trade Grandy.
Still a great outing if hiro cud go 7 inngs one run
Definitely. He’s been great.
Youse guys in the mood for some late-inning run scoring?
If by the Yanks, I’m in. Big time.
The Yanks scoring runs is like a box of chocolates. I always want more.
I want some vanilla ice cream with caramel turtles.
yeah, that would be pleasant.
it’s time for Cano to do something at the plate
A walk…I’ll take it.
I’m kind of surprised Oki-san is going back out there.
Only 86 pitches. Might as well.
Oops, I’m an inning behind. Over 100. Yeah, maybe time for the bullpen.
He was over 100 after the 7th.
after completing 8, it looks a heck of a lot like he could finish it if it was needed.
Now I see why, Oki-san is the only one who can get Ciriaco out.
Ciriyukko is 0 for 3. The magic is gone!
Love that spelling. Maybe McCarver is his good luck charm.
Maybe he wanted to; Joe didn’t mind, off day on Thursday. He gets more rest, and the bullpen has three more games to get there.
Kuroda’s ERA is down to 2.96.
Well, that should seal Oki-san’s 2nd consecutive John Deere award.
I actually mowed the grass today, but Kuroda deserves the award over me.
I think he should get the Midas award tonight.
He muffled ‘em.
Good one.
Steal Itchy steal!
Oh well, Fibber didn’t give him a chance.
Time for Sori to seal the deal.
DP!
Makes me feel better with Yo Adrian coming up.
Catching your references keeps me busy in between pitches.
I’m just one of those rainy seance guys.
how many toothpicks can the Angels dance upon?
sweet!
5-2 home stand. Very nice.
Mice game by the de facto Ace.
Mickey or Minnie?
