According to the Yankees’ PR, Brett Gardner will undergo surgery on his right elbow next week. The left fielder only played in 9 games this season, and has been on the shelf since mid April. It took three setbacks for the doctors to decide on the surgery for his elbow, and the plan is to remove the inflamed tissue.

Andruw Jones and Raul Ibanez have provided plenty of offense in left field, but it’s hard to rely on their defense and health playing everyday. This news likely means the Yankees won’t see Gardner for the rest of the season, and may also mean they’ll explore the trade market for a potential outfielder. With Nick Swisher‘s impending free agency, the team could potentially trade for a long term solution in the outfield instead of a simple rental.

  1. Mark Finke says:

They may need a third team, but Cash could now call up his buddy Towers in AZ and make a trade for Upton asnthe long term solution.

Maybe if Arizona or someone else is willing to take on Granderson, otherwise we have nothing to offer.
