Today is old-timer’s day at the Stadium, hence the game’s 2pm start time. For those who don’t know, the Yankees charge a little bit more for premium games. These games include opening day, all games against the Mets and Red Sox, among other teams, and old-timer’s day. I still don’t get it. I have about as much interest in watching pitchers hit in three spots in the lineup as I do in watching a bunch of retired major leaguers goof around in Yankee Stadium. Evidently mine is a minority opinion. When the real Yankees take the field they’ll look to Phil Hughes to salvage a split of the four game series against the White Sox. Chicago will counter with Gavin Floyd. Enjoy.

  1. Michael says:

Im not old enough to remember any of these guys. Hell I barely remember the 90s

  2. Michael says:

Lets hope Hughes has drank plenty of gatorade. How out there today

  3. Michael says:

Rios always seems to hit Hughes hard

  4. Phil C says:

If you looked at the box score and saw that the pitcher only threw 14 pitches (11 strikes) you’d never guess he faced 6 batters and gave up 3 hits & 2 runs.

  5. smurfy says:

They gave that k to Phil, either to honor a fine, fooling curve, or ‘cuz it’s too hot to linger.

Phil had trouble hitting spots with fb. Hope he can regulate his temperature, but still steam it.

  6. Michael says:

All right boys this is the kind of pitcher the Yankees should be able to do some damage against.

  7. Professor Longnose says:

    Bases loaded…kiss of death?

  8. smurfy says:

ooh, I like the ring of, “and the bases are loaded for Cano.”

  9. Michael says:

Okay Cano. Time to show that the your RISP average is just a fluke like iv been telling everyone…

  10. Professor Longnose says:

Wow, Cano’s OBP up to .370.

    • Michael says:

He is showing more patience this year than in any other year id say. And the ability to never hit with RISP. Hes not clutch!! Not a true Yankee!!

  11. smurfy says:

ewww, crushed hopes. Hope that doesn’t smell too bad.

  12. Phil C says:

Before that 1st inning the Sox were batting .291 w/RISP! Damn, in the Yanks can fix that problem they could run away with the division. But I’m beginning to think it’s going to be a year long problem.

    • Professor Longnose says:

Isn’t it already more than a year-long problem?

For Cano, there’s only been one year when he was good with RISP,as I remember. I should look it up, though.

  13. Michael says:

    #toomanyhomers

  14. smurfy says:

Nice, calm, heady swing Eric. Back to even.

  15. Professor Longnose says:

    Just amazing.

  16. smurfy says:

Jete was hoping the heat waves would ride it out.

  17. Phil C says:

The ball really is carrying well to RF, scares me with Hughes pitching.

  18. smurfy says:

    Rios timed that curve well.

  19. smurfy says:

    Alright.

You know, I dreaded listening to Lou and Paul, but they were very insightful yeaterday. I figured out Paul can talk blather with Michael, but he’s very aware of what’s happening, in a very deep sense. So I quit listening when the story sounded to be long, and it all worked out. Skillful muting.

  20. Professor Longnose says:

Runner on first, no problem for Cano.

  21. smurfy says:

THAT’s what he was thinking of!

  22. smurfy says:

and Swish really clipped that. More! More!

  23. Professor Longnose says:

Just to balance it out, I want the stats on the Yankees’ hitting with a runner on first only.

  24. Professor Longnose says:

    Nooooo! Stay on first!

  25. Professor Longnose says:

67 pitches in the bottom of the third.

  26. Professor Longnose says:

Martin’s OBP is fabulous for a guy hitting .188.

  27. Professor Longnose says:

    Easy one. Sal Maglie.

  28. Phil C says:

Who’s that guy wearing Hughes’ uniform? The real Phil Hughes doesn’t throw that many strikes.

    • smurfy says:

I think he’s off his nibbling ways. Like Paul O’Neill said (oh, yeah, you watching TBS), Phil searches for what works. So he’s testing, then trying different stuff, but generally stays aggressive.

Loved Gavin Floyd’s cap brim going up on Robbie’s liner by him.

  29. smurfy says:

    Corners are wide today, Raul.

  30. smurfy says:

Nice liner, Chavez! One hit now, a big one, would…

oh, hey, Russell. How you holding up?

  31. Professor Longnose says:

    Chad Qualls?

  32. smurfy says:

when I was playing baseball, the sun field was usually right. Definitely left, third base line, here.

  33. smurfy says:

Boy, Viciedo really wanted a fb. Strike 3 was at his hatbrim.

  34. Professor Longnose says:

Only 87 pitches but it’s hot. I don’t know how much longer Hughes should pitch.

  35. Phil C says:

Innings 2 through 7 have been Cy Young quality.

  36. Phil C says:

Balt lost. If the Yanks hang on and win their lead will be 6!

  37. smurfy says:

    Ta, Tex. Nice grab!

  38. Professor Longnose says:

    Mo time!

  39. Phil C says:

With Robertson having problems as a closer, I bet Sori opts out & tries to get more $ and years from the Yanks.

  40. Professor Longnose says:

    And the shirt comes out.

  41. Phil C says:

CC, Nova, Hughes & Kuroda each have a shot ar 20 wins.

  42. Phil C says:

I hope the Yanks hit TB like a hurricane. Chat y’all there.
