OK, the game thread is on time tonight. I think the Yankees lost the series to the Reds because the game threads were late.
yeah, probably threw their timing off.
The next games at very important. This is an under performing club that must turn it around NOW! KC, Oak, LAA….none playing that well. Then the first 2/3 of May is a tough schedule.
Girardi moved Tex down in the lineup, a good move, but maybe he should have even more time off to get well. A-Rod needs to me moved out of the clean-up (actually 3,4, or 5 slots). He’s no longer a premier power hitter. Just a player with some power.
When you’re playing this poorly, every game is important. They have to find out how to get out of this funk.
ohhh, here we go again. Hit the flipping pole.
Hoisted up on our own petard: a bloop and a blast.
Hey, smurfy, where ya been?
That bloop was pathetic. Playing Ibanez in the outfield costs half a run a game.
howdy, Prof. Just laying low, watching every grueling minute.
hey, we got a rally budding!
This is it. A breakout rally.
figures…another warning track disappointment.
Surprised Robbie got struck out looking at a pitch just off the corner. People been messing with him too much about the strike zone.
Harold Reynolds & Al Leiter were arguing over that call on MLBN. Reynolds says it was a ball and the ump made a bad call. Leiter says it was a strike and Cano should have swung.
I say it was a ball, and Cano should have swung. The umps aren’t reliable to split the atom, so when it’s on the line, you take the decision out of the ump’s hand.
Bases loaded…..no outs……no runs. I am sick & tired of hearing everyone say, “we have to do better.” “Don’t worry, we’ll get over this.” We need some passion. Where is the ghost of Billy Martin?
what, you figure they need a little bullwhip? You want George to chew a sacrificial head off?
They need something. Letting them alone sure ain’t working. Plus, some good old controversy would be more fun to watch!
well, that’s along the lines of making something happen. Let me know when it’s coming, so I can leave town.
I agree with Phil. I loved Billy Martin.
we worry about the hitting, then the pitching pukes, and the defense slides on it. Our turnaround won’t come from bullying hitters, it’ll come from sustained pitching success, which will enhearten hitters and defenders.
I wouldn’t recommend punching Russell Martin every time he makes an out, but shuffling the order, benching someone who can’t hit, or trying to trade for someone who can hit are certainly worth trying.
you could fire the hitting, pitching, third base coaches, but the traction will come from good pitching. Let’s hope St. Phil is ready to be canonized.
Andy was surely dandy. We need Ivan to execute his better plan. Then CC will be shamed into reverting to his horsey form. Hiroki? I dunno.
I wouldn’t fire Kevin Long, he’s done good work. The rest of them won’t bug me either way.
Watching the Yankees when Martin was maanging was fun. Those teams were exciting.
Did you? I was out in Chicago, loving the Cubs. When was his last stint? Late 80′s?
However, from the outside, it looked pretty disgusting and petty to see the bully fighting with his (bigger) players.
There are basically two views of Martin. Either he was a great manager who happened to be a psychopath, or he was a psychopath who happened to be a great manager. Take your pick.
Yeah, half a season in ’88. By that time it had gotten weird and no one believed Steinbrenner had any confidence in him. But ’85 was a year to remember. A frustrating one, but great excitement. They started 6-10 under Berra. Martin took over and they were the best team in the league from there on out. Then they mysteriously lost 8 games in a row in Spetember and blew the pennant by 2 games. But they were great fun to watch.
whoa, that was a hard fall at the end. Fun, but Yogi had a touch of difficulty with the sitiation, no? Took 25 years to get past it.
Then there was Billy’s Big Exit.
The player formerly known as Mike Stanton broke the scoreboard with a HR in Miami!
That was fascinating, watching Tex in Yes-Mo, catching, looking, deciding with his feet.
Arod made it by a whisper. Oouch. Probably felt bad about not going for three off the bat, was trying to make up, but whoo.
Do the Yankees have an owner? Our GM has had two straight horrific offseasons, but he remains the voice of the franchise. Where is Hal Steinbrenner? Maybe George screwed up in the 1980s, but at least we all knew he cared. This is a disgrace.
Yogi always said his trouble wasn’t with getting fired, it was with Steinbrenner not telling him personally. I can see his point.
You can’t have guys like Billy Martin and Earl Weaver and Dick Williams anymore. The players make too much money, have contracts that run too long for that. You can’t just get rid of them and move on to the next guy.
Probably the 50s and before was too brutal to the players, and now is too frustrating for the fans, but the 70s might have been a great balance overall.
Garcia? Forget it. I’m going to bed. See you all tomorrow.
Boy, it’s feeling like a bruising whupping.
Swish better rally the troops like it’s Boston.
Boston now leads Balt. If they win they will tie the Yanks for the basement!!!!!!!!
I haven’t been this ashamed of the Yankees since October of 2006, when Joe Torre and Brian Cashman benched Bernie Williams to play Jason Giambi. Murders row plus Cano, remember? Heaven forbid we play clutch hitters who don’t try to hit it to the moon during every at-bat.
I agree with that last thought. Swish said postgame last night that the Yanks were set to swing for homers, that’s where their runs come from. But, you gotta know how to go with it, to score when you need to, rather than waiting 20 at bats.
Folks have predicting it for years, but finally this looks like and OLD team.
Arod may be feeling his hip. So many DH days.
Sure glad I didn’t pay $1000 to sit in a cushy seat in the rain to watch this soggy affair.
Go (glub) Tankees!
Gives a whole new meaning to playing in a fishbowl!
and the fish are booing.
The 1st base ump almost punched out Freddie with that out call.
I’ve had it for the night. Good night y’all.
The Yankees need to find their mojo, regain their confidence, their positive expectations. Firing anyone won’t help. Trading (and firing), unless it’s a mind-blower, won’t do it.
Someone needs to lead, and I nominate the starters, starting with Sir Phil.
Now is the time for all good Yankees to hit like hell.
way to start it, Tex! He was tuned in, and sure enough delivered. Yost no likee, goodbye Mr. Collins. We need to conquer another.
Yost was right: a good change of pace to Aaron Crow, good at spotting the low outside corner.
ahh, so.
