Sunday Links: Charleston Roster, Campos, TPBP relaunched

Sunday Morning
Lots of fresh, hot off the Twitter Yankee news coming down on this first day of April, so let’s get right to it.
-I’ll be appearing on Mike Silva’s NYBD radio tonight at 10 PM on 1240 AM WGBB radio. I’ll be on after Kevin Kernan of the NY Post, and we’ll be discussing the whole Michael Pineda fiasco, which Mike writes about on his blog this morning. My take differs from Mike, so it should be a good debate.
-Two of the Yankees main competitors for the AL pennant named their 5th starters today. Felix Dubront will be in the Red Sox rotation and Drew Smyly will be the Tigers number 5. (Buster Olney) Peter Abraham adds that Daniel Bard is the Red Sox number 5 starter. (Link)
-The Yankee low A affiliate Charleston River Dogs have announced their opening day roster. Easily the most exciting Yankee farm team to watch this season, although AAA will be must see TV as well with Pettitte, Betances, Banuelos and in all likelihood Pineda spending time there this year. Here’s the article, the River Dogs roster includes 9 of the Yankees top 20 prospects headlined by Gary Sanchez, Mason Williams, Jose Campos, Dante Bichette Jr and Cito Culver. Other notables are Tyler Austin, Ben Gamel, and RHP Bryan Mitchell.
-While were on the subject of Jose Campos, Hall of Famer Peter Gammons tweeted this about the Yankee farmhand:
NL scout:”Before you pass judgement on Pineda, Jose Campos was the best young pitcher I saw all winter–easy 100″
-Crosstown rival New York Mets have announced that Johan Santana will be their opening day starter (Brain Costa WSJ)
-Last but not least, friend of the blog and die hard Yankee fan Rebecca Glass has decided to relaunch her Purist Bleeds Pinstripes blog after a year and a half hiatus where she was doing boring stuff like writing for ESPN and Baseball Prospectus. Bookmark it, its a fun read and a unique take from what us dopey guys babble about on a daily basis. Just don’t mess with her, because chances are she’s carrying a sgian dubh.

Real bummer for me is the Charleston River Dogs won’t visit the Lakewood Blue Claws this year!
I’m hoping Pineda gets a rehab start in Brooklyn like Hughes did last year! Woo-hoo!
It would be kind of funny if Campos ended up being the best player in the whole Montero-Pineda trade looking back 10 years from now. Weirder things have happened.
