Nightly Links: Kuroda, Trenton, Haikus
- Interesting game shaping up in Miami tonight. The game began with Robinson Cano striking out and then being called out for interference, and apparently Arod had some unflattering words for the umpire. Hiroki Kuroda finished his short start to prepare for the season with 3.0 innings, 1 run, 1 walk, and 2 strikeouts, that puts his spring training ERA at 2.92. Offensively, Derek Jeter, Curtis Granderson, and Alex Rodriguez have doubles thus far, and Robinson Cano has 2 walks. That’s not an April fools joke. (Gameday)
- Thunder beat writer Mike Ashmore has the Trenton opening day roster. There should be some solid hitters, but Zoilo Almonte probably probably leads the pack. With Graham Stoneburner and Brett Marshall on the staff, there are plenty of high upside pitchers this year.
- Yankee Fans Unite has your prospects to follow in 2012, with a hitter and pitcher from every level. Yes, they’ve actually chosen a hitter from the Charleston level, taking Dante Bichette Jr over Mason Williams, a tough decision to make.
- Anyone familiar with the Trenton Thunder broadcast, knows that announcer Jay Burnham ends each game with a post-game haiku. Similarly, Mike Axisa has previewed each American League team with a haiku.
- In non-Yankee analysis, Beyond the Boxscore has a very interesting post on how speed and age can correlate with handedness, or how switch hitters tend to stay in better shape. It’s a must read for stat heads.
- Jesus Montero got drilled in the head today by Edgmer Escalona. Although he was pulled from the game, it appears that he’s alright. The pitcher was not ejected, but Montero was “livid” after the game.
- And today’s workouts.
