It’s Hiroki Kuroda‘s turn to earn a win tonight in his first start in Yankee Stadium. It’s a home opener to, with Jorge Posada throwing out the first pitch, you can’t embarrass yourself out there. On the line, a possible 4 game winning streak, the Yankees first winning record this year, and possibly even first place. In Kuroda’s short career against the Angels, he has a 2.45 ERA and a sleek 0.927 WHIP in 18.1 innings. As for the opposing team’s pitcher, I covered Ervin Santana pretty thoroughly this morning. Matt’s got the rest of the Angel’s wrap up for you here. Here’s your lineup today.

    Nice first inning.

  2. Professor Longnose says:

Odd play, but great heads up by Martin stealing third.

  3. smurfy says:

Hey, Professor! Nice strike three from Kuroda. Yer out!

  4. smurfy says:

Bravo, Alex. Right in amongst the monuments.

  5. Professor Longnose says:

    The Bronx Bombers are back.

  6. smurfy says:

Nice shot, Curtis! Liner, right over the fence.

  7. smurfy says:

Tex looked pretty disappointed, as he stopped his run after first base. He hoped it was out -

    Great stop, Robbie!

    - and he came close, at the wall, 15 feet right of Arod’s. Just a little too high, maybe. A 400′ knock likely felt pretty good.

  8. Professor Longnose says:

Teixeira isn’t an April hitter. He’ll warm up.

  9. Professor Longnose says:

    Batoidea 1, Crimson Hose 0.

  10. Professor Longnose says:

4 hits, no runs through 7 for Kuroda. Nice game.

  11. smurfy says:

That Jeter double was fantastic, slicing, slowly, bouncing away from Bourjois.

  12. Professor Longnose says:

I find the phrasing “slicing, slowly” to be remarkably poetic.

    • smurfy says:

thanks, I do, too. Inspired by the nifty hit. Think Jeter was jammed, but has handled so many of those, he knows how to do it.

  13. smurfy says:

Curtis tip-toed back, varying his speed with the look of the floating flyball. Kenny remarked that Curtis was shallow against Pujols, earlier, and that he’s had a drive beat him, recently.

I have noticed him consistently deciding not to try for questionnable bloopers, and thought he would have had some. I like good risk control, but I’m wondering if his lack of reading skills might mean Gardner would be better in center.

  14. smurfy says:

    Yep, nice job, Kuroda-san. Smooth.

  15. smurfy says:

Wow! Easy breezy day! Robertson closes it out.

Gets Pujols to dp, struck out Morales.

    • Professor Longnose says:

Gotta go. Take it easy til the next game.

Something to ponder: what are the chances Alex Rodriguez has a better year than Pujols?
