Tonight has the makings of a potential pitcher’s duel, at least insofar as a pitcher’s duel can occur in the Ballpark in Arlington.
The Yankees offense is lacking a bit of punch, as Russell Martin has a much-deserved day off, Brett Gardner is still on the disabled list, and Raul Ibanez will sit against a rather talented southpaw – meaning Eduardo Nunez and Chris Stewart will be batting eighth and ninth. Then again, Nunez is sporting a 1.000 OPS thus far (though he has scuffled against LHP, batting an empty .400 thus far … small sample sizes!). The Yankees will face Derek Holland (check out Michael Eder’s scouting report), who appears to be consolidating those tantalizing flashes of potential from the past three-plus seasons into a breakout season … and giving a bit of hope to those who are still enamored with Hughes’ potential.
CC Sabathia, fresh off his best start of this fledgling season, will face a Rangers lineup sans Adrian Beltre … and an uninspiring trifecta in Torrealba, Snyder, and Gentry at the bottom of the order. One through six remains relatively horrifying, though.
That being said, I would likely take the over on even the most pragmatic line.

Not if he’s hitting .455!
EDITED BY MATT I AT 7:04: Hey, I edited your comment so that your name wouldn’t be displayed publicly.
At least his fielding percentage won’t decline. But this situation is the result of Hughes and Garcia being unable to provide enough innings.
Let’s see some first-inning damage!
Granderson comes through! I’d have felt lousy if they didn’t score there.
Curtis fought that off great. That seems a new book on him: pitch him in on the hands.
OK, I’ll take it.
I despise you as an announcer, Michael Kay.
He’s not even doing the game tonight, is he?
You must be watching ESPN. It’s also on My 9, but you can have a peek.
Ah, I forgot to check 9.
I live in Texas, be glad, be VERY glad you don’t have to listen to the Ranger announcers. At least tonight I can watch ESPN.
My sympathies.
Different picture on the 2 channels. My9 is a tighter shot, richer contrast. Betcha same cameras are available to both.
Oh, man, he was gonna be out.
No, no, not with a ltle cooperation. And he scores!
Man Jeter, Swish, they’re doing good.
Nice little jack, Alex!
That’s why it’s good to have him around.
Wow, first Swish, now Andruw, liners to Hamilton’s wall.
CC has been doing well, staying out of the middle since the1st.
Yes, he’s putting it together.
Hey, Stewart wants Martin’s job!
Chris Stewart, the stealth slugger. Woo-hoo! D-d-d-d-Derek!
Swish’s turn.
High socks: everyone or no one.
Derek Jeter is really good at baseball.
I never thought of that.
They call me captain obvious. Guess what, Sabathia is good too. He must be really angry.
Is there anyone who ever broadcasts a Yankee game who is really good at announcing?
Is it too late to clone Mel Allen or Red Barber?
Probably. Unless someone froze their heads.
Well then, I’d love to see (hear) Coney do the play-by-play.
Home run, schmome run. Sabathia is throwing a hell of a game.
6th inning, 66 pitches: it’s devilish!
Texas is playing the cavalry’s coming bugle call. That’s really a call to the bullpen.
I’m ready to hand this to the pen.
Wow, CC pitched a 5 pitch inning, AND sawed Hamilton off. Nice 8. Is that all?
Crimson Hose have blown a 3-0 lead. The Geminates are up 4-3.
Knocking Lester silly in the process. Oh, my stars.
The Geminates = Twins?

Plus Avila made an error, although it didn’t lead to any runs.
Hopefully there will only be one Rangers’ win tonight. I just hope I can find a channel that carries game seven here.
Some debate currently on whether he kicked the puck in, on MSG, where the New Yawkers watch it.
I didn’t see the game, just scoring updates pm ESPN.
Mariano for the save.
Nelson Cruz wants to – hey, he did put his lumberjack swing on it! I wanted Mo to saw the lumberjack off.
Mo’s new approach: let them tire themselves out wth big flies.
Couple drives off Mariano, but they’re outs just the same.
And he finishes with a miscued squib, appropriately.
Nice game all around!
Lessee… CC gets the pitching , and all-around award, if I were pressed, but Jete gets the player award, minus the routine error. Strong balls: Curtis. Slugger, that Arod with the Abomb.
And Tex gets Meh Of The Day.
and Joe gets the Yankee Manager of the Game award for knowing when to stick with CC.
