Thanks for tuning in this week; I’ll be sure to bump these threads months from now so we can all point and laugh.

Matt Imbrogno:

1. Miguel Cabrera will play fewer than 110 games at third base.

2. Raul Ibanez WILL be a Yankee on May 1st.

William Juliano:

1) Bobby Valentine will be fired before September.

2) Hanley Ramirez will be traded before the deadline.

3) After being acquitted of perjury charges, Roger Clemens will reconcile with Andy Pettitte and make an appearance at Old Timer’s Day.

Mike Eder:

1) Zack Greinke will head the discussion for the Cy Young up until the trade deadline when he’ll be traded by the struggling Brewers. Greinke, not Cole Hamels, will be the top starting pitcher available after the 2012 season.

2) All of Jesus Montero, Michael Pineda, and Hector Noesi will struggle in their first seasons on their new teams. The most impressive piece of the trade? Jose Campos

3) The Nationals will have a stronger rotation than the Phillies. Jordan Zimmerman and Steven Strasburg will emerge as aces, while Edwin Jackson continues his trend improving. Gio Gonzalez will see slight regression.

Domeic Lanza:

01. Trevor Bauer will pitch his way into the Diamondbacks rotation by mid-Spring, and will run away with the Rookie of the Year and receive serious Cy Young consideration after leading the NL in ERA.

02. Johan Santana will make 25+ starts with borderline-vintage peripherals, but his greatest contribution to the Mets will come in the bounty of young talent he will fetch at the trade deadline.

03. Austin Jackson and Jesus Montero will turn in performances on-par with the very best players at their positions – center field and franchise slugger, respectively. Many televisions, laptops, and cell phones will be destroyed by Yankees fans.

Brad Vietrogoski:

1) Phil Hughes will have an even better first half in 2012 than he did in 2010, get another invite to the ASG, and follow up with a solid 2nd half to earn himself a new long-term contract.

2) Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee, and Cole Hamels will become the first trio of starting pitchers to each win 20+ games since 1973 and carry an old, shoddy Philadelphia offense to the NL East title.

3) Bobby V will continue to stir the pot all season, creating friction with the media, his players, and GM Ben Cherington, all culminating in a 2nd straight season without the Red Sox in the playoffs and Valentine getting canned after just 1 season.

EJ Fagan:

1. Assuming Banuelos and Betances are no longer prospects, your top-3 Yankee prospects come September will be, in this order, Gary Sanchez, Dante Bichette, Mason Williams.

2. Alex Rodriguez will play over 140 games, and will have his best season in years.

3. The new wildcard format will result in at least one extreme darkhorse (Kansas City, Washington Colorado, Toronto) making it to the 2nd round of the playoffs.

7 Responses to TYA Predictions: Bold predictions for 2012

  1. Nick says:

If the sox dont make the playoffs it would be their 3rd year in a row

  2. roadrider says:

Raul Ibanez WILL be a Yankee on May 1st.

Perhaps – but what about May 2?

  3. Reggie C. says:

Good predictions all around living up to the bold label, except for the Johan Santana traded at the deadline. That one is more Mets’ fan pipe dream than bold and realistic.

    I say:
    1. Crawford rebounds to career averages; everyone has written that guy off that he’s underrated at this point.
    2. Darvish finishes with a top 5 AL vote, but Rangers don’t win the division.
    3. Giancarlo Stanton becomes the sole NL hitter to go yard 40 times.

    • Domenic Lanza says:

Erik Bedard brought back a decent return for the Mariners last year, and this is a similar situation – though, Santana was healthier and better than Bedard prior to missing an entire season.

  4. sherripizza says:

Enjoyable! I really hope EJ is right about A-Rod, and really hope Brad is right about Phil Hughes.

  5. Professorg says:

What are you guys smokin? Without a doubt, the story of the year will be Yoenis Cespedes, even though he’s with the A’s. ARod will continue to decline because of new nagging injuries. Martin will finally get injured and with a shaky Cervelli and Romine with back problems, we’ll be forced to trade for a backstop, but…I say but the bombers will still win the east because of a great pitching and another great year from Grandy and Cano. Hughes will come back stronger than ever. Print it!
