• It’s time to panic folks, the Yankees have lost two straight games. The long awaited debut of the new Phil Hughes happened today, and the results on the field were less than encouraging. Of course, you can’t take much from his four hit, two run, 1.1 IP, and Joe Pawlikowski has the reason why. Hughes was hitting 93 quite often, which is definitely progress from where he was last year. It was a tough game for Sabathia as well, but Brett Marshall did impress with 1.2 innings pitched, a strikeout, and a walk. (Box Score)

One Response to Nightly Links: Hughes, Pineda, Playoffs

  1. T.O. Chris says:

I’m not at all concerned with Pineda’s velocity. It was clear even without a radar gun reading he wasn’t popping the mit as hard as he was in the middle of last year, but power pitchers tend to take more time in ST to build up velocity anyone. He looked to be well ahead of schedule with his location, hitting location extremely well for the first game of ST. Even if he isn’t at top velocity until a week or so into the season he has the kind of control to make up for it.
