- The Yankees reached an agreement with Raul Ibanez this morning with a $1.1m based contract, but incentives could bring the deal up to $4m. Jack Moore talked a little about his splits at FanGraphs, and how it would impact the team in 2012.
- Girardi confirmed a few things today. Robertson will remain the 8th inning reliever, the Cano, Arod, Tex at 3-4-5 is the plan for the season, and Hughes and Garcia will compete to be the fifth starter.
- Now that the Burnett trade is completed, the Yankees have restarted discussions with Eric Chavez. Another lefty infield bat is really a necessity in my opinion, I would be shocked if the talks fell through.
- Mariano Rivera hinted at retirement plans today. Marc Carig quoted him saying, “This one is different. This is it.” With words like that, it looks like 2012 will be Rivera’s last season.

If Moe does indeed retire do/should the Yankees just give Robertson the closer job? Or should they have open competition between Soriano, Robertson, Joba, and Hughes if he ends the year in the Pen.
They could go thru an unfair competition next spring, or they could let Joe, with normal counselling, play it by ear. They have all this year to compete and cooperate.
But, no, Mo, say it’s not so. How about semi-retirement, such as work home games only, if you’re tired of travelling? Kinda ease into it, see if you like it first. Nothing like being the living Mo.
