Good Monday morning, TYA readers! If you’re a Jets or Giants fan, I assume you’re still trying to wash the taste of yesterday out of your mouth. To help, here’s some frivolity, projecting how many runs the Yankees could score in 2012. We’ll be using the Lineup Analysis tool from Baseball Musings because it’s a lot of fun. The OBP and SLG numbers are coming from the ZiPS projections.

Using the below lineup, the one that we’re most likely to see, the Yankees would score 5.302 runs per game. Over 162 games, that’s 858 runs.

1. Derek Jeter
2. Curtis Granderson
3. Mark Teixeira
4. Alex Rodriguez
5. Robinson Cano
6. Nick Swisher
7. Jesus Montero
8. Russell Martin
9. Brett Gardner

The best possible lineup of the Yankees would score 5.383 R/G, which would be 872 runs over the course of the season. That lineup?

1. Swisher
2. Teixeira
3. Martin
4. Cano
5. Rodriguez
6. Montero
7. Granderson
8. Jeter
9. Gardner

What lineups would you use? How many runs would those lineups score? I laid out mine a while ago (I’ve never gotten more widely negative reaction to a post), but didn’t plug them in here since the projections do not include splits.

Matt, I thought there has been wide spread speculation that Cano and Tex would flip flop positions in the batting order. What would those numbers look like?

Based on “2nd half Jeter” (which I expect this season to be closer to that 1st half Jeter), I go with the “most likely” lineup, with the possible swapping of Teix and Cano. I could also see moving ARod at some point if he’s not producing, but I’m hoping for a productive season from him as well. If Montero is mashing, things will definitely shake up.

Pretty amazing that there’s only a 24 run difference over 162 games between expected and most productive lineups!

    Haha, projecting….

    Ya, projecting.

You know what, this year’s NPB champion Softbank just lost their Ace because their director(already taking responsibility=fired) told him last year, if you opted for free agency, no team would be interested in you, during negotiations. Finally, their Ace chooses to leave with less money. This told us that players are human, not computer games.

Give me a favor, stop keep posting meaningless article, ok? lol
