TYA Playoff Game Thread: Monday, October 3, 2011
If there is one thing I don’t like about the Baseball playoffs it is how quickly the media narrative whip lashes around from team to team. A ball club gets a one day reprieve, that’s it. Even if a team was up 3-1, once that team has dropped a game the articles will pop up asking whether or not that team is in trouble. Unfortunately the Yankees lost game two, but they were bound to lose an ALDS game eventually. The series is still tied, and last I checked CC Sabathia can pitch a little.
Here’s the lineup:
Derek Jeter – SS
Curtis Granderson – CF
Robinson Cano – 2B
Alex Rodriguez – 3B
Mark Teixeira – 1B
Nick Swisher – RF
Jorge Posada – DH
Russell Martin – C
Brett Gardner – LF
The game begins at 8:37 pm, on TBS. Let’s go Yankees!

A hit to start off the game.
Granderson triples! The Yanks take an early lead! Wahooooo!
Cano struck out. Need to get the run in.
Well, so much for Verlander’s plan to bring himself up to speed gradually. The Yanks weren’t working counts, they were swinging. Now if Alex would…
Big at bat for Rodriguez.
Sweet! 2 to start! Well done, Jete and Curtis!
Too bad Tex missed it, he woulda blown Justin”s mind.
Boy, Professor, no one else, except the Yankee players, saw fit to complain about having to try both rallies in the downpours yesterday. Bogus!
This is scary: if the Yankees lose today, the whole season is in the hands of A.J. Burnett.
ah, he’ll do well. Swallow that fear.
thats like knowing what was going to happen to gen. custer and still go with him
ha!
Don’t think that way.
I’ll try.
What kind of crap was that? That was strike three!
the announcers warned us that this ump is tight.
Great DP!
Jackson had done well, fouling off excellent pitches.
wow, that was a beautiful pitch, right on the corner, called a ball!
ump must be working with TBS, to get some Tiger support.
Three walks from Sabathia in the first inning–we got trouble.
He has to adjust to being squeezed.
Phew!
CC was tiring them out.
I liked the K–the pitch had a lot of break. If the walks were just getting adjusted to this idiot ump, then no problem. But every so often, Sabathia loses the strike zone and pays for it.
Except he hadn’t lost the zone. The computer liked those at strikes. CC lives on the outside corner. This ump is terrible. Let’s hope he calls it both ways.
Right–I think it was the ump, too. He should be able to adjust to that. I hope.
CC’s not just a horse. he’s also a rock.
A rockin’ horse?
if he moves the ball in more , so long CC. girardi has to jump on the ump
arod and tex need to hit tonight or bye bye yanks..going to take 5 or 6 runs with this ump
That would make things a whole lot easier.
Rodriguez has two RBIs, both on groundouts with the infield in.
The announcers said the bottom half of the first was a success for Detroit because Sabathia threw 27 (eventually 28 pitches). They didn’t say that about the Yankee half, even though Verlander threw 22 pitches, and the Yankees scored two runs. Sheesh.
they better watch out they don’t sprain something, with thinking like that.
See? CC’s just luring them to first base so they can knock them down two at a time.
Good plan!
Verlander may win the Cy Young and the MVP, but he’s not winning a gold glove.
where was that pitch ,boy joe better get on this ump..strike for them ball for us
TBS is challenging my eyesight with that wee scoreboard.
Playing them tough, CC is. Facing 9 plus an unwilling ump. Nice fastball on strike 2 to Martinez, lotsa mustard.
I’m going to let your optimism stand.
This strike zone is inconsistent, and very small. Pitches that in the first inning were called against Arod a strike, in the same location have repeatedly been balls for Sabathia. The season high in walks is the product of bad umpiring. I usually do not follow the strike zone placement on TV or even MLB.com but in the at bat to Austin Jackson every single pitch except 1 was inside both strike zones. What is going on with this ump?
well, I wanna sympathize, and you may be right; but Arod’s walk just now, the box showed 2 of the 4 pitches as low strikes.
Then again, a wide “strike” to Swish sure was outside the box, so…- and so was strike 3! Maybe he took money.
3-0 to Rodriguez. I’ll take a walk.
this ump is killing us
This strike zone is BS. CC is getting squeezed hard while the same pitches are being called as strikes for Verlander. Sure, CC isn’t helping his case by being so wild but damnit I can complain about this!
Way to go, Alex! Great third base.
I’m too tense to type.
CC’s got it tuned in. Let’s get some runs!
Gimme a single, a double, and a homer.
No triple?
I didn’t want to be greedy.
Verlander looks locked in now…
yeah, two of the finest curve balls and a heater made that a quick inning. Kevin Long better have a backup plan.
Sigh. This is going to be tough.
that’s why they call them Yankees.
Jeter, Jete the complete.
Six more years of those at-bats. Thanks a whole lot, Hank.
little big horn on the horizon..AJ as CUSTER
splendid analogy, if you’re an injun or a tiger.
Tex, Swish and Jorge. No bunters there. Somebody’s gotta work a walk.
well, alright, Jorge. Now, Monsiuer Martin. Oh, the insult: take your base. Gritster? Hmm.
Holy bleep! They tied the score!!!
a 2 fer 1 sale! Come on down Grittty gritty Brett!
The announcers sound so excited!
Its screwing up their verlander love-fest
And their Yankee hate-fest.
Jorge Posada earned that chance with a fine, gritty at bat. 0 – 2, didn’t bite at the curveballs.
Yes, he did. Damn fine work.
ooch! yet another speed bump.
Come on, Alex!
Alright, Tex, another 2 fer 1 sale.
i said earlier we needed 5 or 6 runs…and arod and tex need to hit…..
how do you feel about the date, 12-20-2012?
Soriano is the goat tonight for trying to lay a first pitch fastball down the middle.
an announcer, probably Smoltzy, said it before the pitch.
This is it.
alrighty, let’s stuff Malverde. We got Swish, Jorge and Russell.
A run, or the season.
Work him, Swisher.
Posada has been the man.
Pinch runner, stolen base.
Wordy Malverde didn’t want to lay his stuff in the zone for Jorge.
Oh- Russell was 5 feet short!
How’s this, Professor? Interested?
Yes, but still bummed.
Good night, all.
aww, shucks! You guys better show AJ you still believe in him. See you for Custer’s Last Stand!
swisher wanted to hit the ball to canada again..2 and 0..why did he need to swing and not work this bum..that was a hugh at bat..i really hope they don’t re sign this guy..every year in the playoffs he melts.. i think we win tomorrow..as crazy as that may sound..good night guys
