First, let’s get you caught up on all things Yankee. Some guy named Mariano notched a record of some sort. No, not Mariano Duncan. The other one…..you know, whats his name. Pedro Feliciano finally had his rotator cuff surgery, which actually happened about a week ago on September 8th. That should finish him for next year, and probably for his career. The rotator cuff is extremely complicated to fix, and success rates are far lower than things like Tommy John. Even the pitchers who come back all the way are typically not the same, and those are considered success stories. Brian Cashman had a very underrated off season last year, but this was not a move that worked out for him in any way.

In happier news, the Yanks are going for a sweep in Seattle, and Boston already lost. If you’re a Yankee fan and into schadenfreude, Boston has to have you in Heaven right now. They’re 3-10 for the month of September, everyone in their rotation not named Lester is either awful or hurt, Bard has been bad all month and now Adrian Gonzalez has a calf injury. The hits just keep on comin’. I’m almost hoping the Rays DON’T pass them up at this point, I can’t wait to play the Sox in October with how banged up they are right now.

Here’s your lineup from Chad over at LoHud:

Derek Jeter SS
Curtis Granderson CF
Mark Teixeira 1B
Robinson Cano 2B
Nick Swisher RF
Jesus Montero DH
Andruw Jones LF
Russell Martin C
Eduardo Nunez 3B

Ivan Nova gets the start facing Jason Vargas of the Mariners. GO YANKS!!!!!

If Sabathia starts Friday, would he start 9/20 on short rest and 9/25 on normal rest before Game 1 of the ALDS 9/30? Or would he start 9/21 on normal rest and 9/25 on short rest? Anyone?

  2. Professor Longnose says:

If the Yankees play the Sox, though, that means the Sox got through the first round, which means that they’re playing better, Right now the Yanks are most likely to play the Rangers, so here’s hoping the Angels keep the pressure on them so that they have to use their best pitchers the last couple of days of the season.

  3. Professor Longnose says:

Nova gets the side in order in the first on 5 pitches

  4. Professor Longnose says:

Vargas threw 38 pitches in the first two inning and the Yankees haven’t had a baserunner yet.

    • smurfy says:

That averages out to every hitter taking him to 3-2, plus a couple fouls. Anybody have a particularly long pa? He was perfect, but had to Earn it, as John Houseman would say.

      • Professor Longnose says:

I wasn’t really keeping track. Don’t remember any particularly long, He did seem to run a full count on everyone.

  5. Professor Longnose says:

Nice K for Nova in a big spot–first and second, no one out.

  6. Professor Longnose says:

    And a DP!

  7. Professor Longnose says:

That was a terrible decision to send Jones.

  8. Professor Longnose says:

On what grounds can Kay and Leiter say that Nunez has done a very nice job? His hitting has been off and on, and his fielding has been atrocious.

    • smurfy says:

His errors weren’t outrageous, and he hit enough so people didn’t feel him as a black hole. I suppose you could give all the credit to several (many) other Yankee hitters for that; but he subbed for Jeter and Rodriguez for a month plus and a month plus, and his fielding and hitting did not distract the team from its winning ways.

Good Job! And I definitely could be MORE appreciative.

Great tag by Jeter! Never saw Nunie do that!

    • bornwithpinstripes says:

      never pat attention to kay

  9. smurfy says:

Nice play by Jeter. Cano’s pivot was a clever as ever, but his sling looked slow. Good enough to get Ichiro, tho. – they showed another angle on replay, and Cano did,’t sling it, but overhand it.

  10. smurfy says:

Vargas did not use many that inning.

  11. bornwithpinstripes says:

thompson is a terrible 3b coach..how could he not see jones slowing down..he is lucky he made it to third..one out jeter up..very bad move

  12. Professor Longnose says:

Seagar was out by a whiole lot.

  13. smurfy says:

Shame. Ivan sweated that grip by too much.

  14. Professor Longnose says:

    Nova’s getting K’s–that’s good.

I think another half inning for me.

  15. bornwithpinstripes says:

boy that is twice ,girardi had nunez cover the bunt and not third base..they had a shot if he stayed back..

  16. bornwithpinstripes says:

    TEAM MVP…NO QUESTION DAVID ROBERTSON…

    • smurfy says:

wow, he’s done the amazing a lot, but, no question?

      • bornwithpinstripes says:

cano is the mvp…just caught up in another great moment by david

        • smurfy says:

yeah, that moment was pretty important to this game, as he has done many times, so you’d have a valid argument. And, yeah, I landed on Cano, too.

Tho Brett just saved the bacon in the ninth.

          • smurfy says:

We undercut Curtis’ league MVP by saying that, but really we have had stellar contributions from several players. Even Russell and Tex have been important offensive players for quite a few games, besides the valuable defense they continuously contribute. The whole team has performed at a high level. MVP is only a trophy.

  17. Duh, Innings! says:

Montero has looked like crap lately. ‘Strikes out way too much for my liking. If he keeps it up no way he’s on the postseason roster and Romine will take his spot.

  18. smurfy says:

Great battle with Ackley, but Boone won it.

  19. smurfy says:

Boy, Tex was so close, closer than Curtis, a couple innings ago.
