The Red Sox had moved ahead of the Yankees in runs scored for the season before yesterday’s game, and with their 18-run explosion, they’re pretty much a lock to keep that lead.
Howdy, Prof, if you check back in. I’m kinda floating around. Loved the top o’ the first, Rays v Red Sox last night, classic buffoonery.
I’m around. How goes?
The Rays look tired. Maybe they peaked.
I know I would be totally exhausted. Great entertainment! Yanks got the whip hand workin’, don’t they? Too bad we’re underdogs.
This isn’t a great Yankee team, but it’s got a shot at getting into the World Series.
Why isn’t this a great team? Best record in the AL, I think the best run differential, second in the AL in wOBA/wRC+, third in ERA, second in FIP, second in xFIP, second in pitching fWAR….
help me, Nova, you are my only hope.
I guess it depends on your dividing line between good and great. This team has a .605 winning percentage. To me, that’s very good, not great. It gives starts to too many lousy pitchers. It goes into team slumps when it doesn’t score much for games in a row, and it has trouble scoring in the late innings for stretches. They’re probably the best team in the AL, or very close to it, but they don’t strike me as a dominant team.
Ho, Grandyman! He knows where that double good candy gets planted along the first base line.
Is Kay high? B.J. Upton plays a notoriously shallow CF.
he was too deep to get in to Tex’s generous liner, a good ways out.
And, no. Michael would never do that. He’s got too many wacky stats to keep track of.
He won’t even eat ketchup. Pot would drive him up a wall.
Yeah, Prof. Our luck’s got to hold: Garcia and Colon have to find grooves, as does CC. Ivan skated thru two innings of serious trouble, that woulda got my hook. He won’t learn from them, now.
As with most teams, when they’re good they’re very, very good. They just need to get hot at the right time, and maybe a little lucky.
The Red Sox brought Bard into the 8th with a 5-4 lead. He put two on with one out, and they brought in Papelpimple for a 5-out save. He K’d the first hitter he faced, then gave up a single to load the bases and a double to drive in all three runners. 7-5 O’s.
oh, mein Gott! The hell of it all in Boston.
They’ll probably make the playoffs anyway, but the Fenway Faithful are feeling it.
those guys aren’t very faithful. You think you’re a skeptic? They been doing the Puritan thing for a long time. And, I don’t know, maybe it’s the ascerbic(?) fans ‘n media, but they don’t seem to rise above too well. \
Crawford’s got a crawful, as well as a stiff neck.
You’re right. I wonder if anyone’s ever done a serious psychological study of Red Sox fans.
But I’ve been to Fenway, and those are lovable women and children, anyways.
and a friendly first base ump!
That helped.
