  1. Professor Longnose says:

Not the loudest run Burnett ever gave up, but I’m in no mood to give me a break.

  2. Professor Longnose says:

I didn’t realize the Yankees had a JV team.

  3. Professor Longnose says:

If Alex Rodriguez can get hot down the stretch and into the playoffs, that would be huge.

  4. Professor Longnose says:

I can’t argue with Girardi about the lineup. After yesterday’s game, it seems reasonable.

I wold have liked to see the Yankees send this lineup, and only a couple other position players, to Baltimore on Thursday.

  5. Professor Longnose says:

I heard Kay’s interview with Butch Wynegar on the radio yesterday. Wynegar seemed level headed but positive about Montero’s abilities.

I remember Wynegar from when he was with the Yankees, and before, when he was with the Twins.

  6. Professor Longnose says:

Shocking: A.J. Burnett looks like the same guy he’s been for two years, rather than the guy he looked like for 5 innings last time out.

  7. Professor Longnose says:

E5 for the O’s. Is the bad defense because of the Yankees’ hash of a lineup, or the field ocnditions?

  8. Professor Longnose says:

This is getting ugly. A pop falls on the mound uncaught.

  9. Professor Longnose says:

And Burnett doesn’t bother to touch first base making the play.

The team, the conditions. I guess we’re just going to have to live with sloppy defense.

  10. Professor Longnose says:

You can’t expect to give a team 5 outs in an inning and not have Burnett give up a homer.

  11. Professor Longnose says:

Laird and Burnett combine for another bad play at first base. I can’t remember seein a game like this in a while.

  12. Professor Longnose says:

Laird and Burnett finally get it right! Woo-hoo!

  13. Professor Longnose says:

Walk, double by Rodriguez and Jones with no one out. They’re hitting Britton better now than they did last time.

  14. Professor Longnose says:

Montero drives in both with a long single!

  15. Professor Longnose says:

Ball goes over Alex Rodriguez’s glove, and Nunez flat out bobbles an easy grounder. The Yankees keep giving Baltimore free outs.

  16. smurfy says:

Hey, Prof, I’m doing something else today, half watching the game, butI had to come over to note the fine defensive play by my boy, Ramiro!

Hope you stayed home last night. At least you get to pick a game nextyear.

    • Professor Longnose says:

Pena’s was the one decent grab in a sea of slop. A nice play.

Yeah, I stayed home. I can’t believe they played that game. Something’s wrong with the system. The Yankees are very cool to give out freebies, though.

      • smurfy says:

I was impressed by his presence of mind to wheel around and throw without hesitation. Just wish he could hit!

Yeah, they should shorten the regular season to make for good weather, and enough time to play the playoffs. Go back to 152 games.

        • Professor Longnose says:

Yeah, great snap throw by Pena.

Burnett’s been blah, but he hasn’t collapsed. Don’t give him a chance.

  17. Professor Longnose says:

And a fine fielding play by Burnett for the DP! Nice.

  18. smurfy says:

Nunie’s cannon found a target. Just in time.

  19. Professor Longnose says:

    Just walkin’ in the rain…

  20. Professor Longnose says:

Bringing out the big guns now.

  21. Professor Longnose says:

It’s interesting how these games seem to mean more to Showalter. For him, every move is designed to bring a winning attitude to the team. He has to always look like winning means everything–which it probably does.

  22. smurfy says:

Nice to hear some authority in a batted ball!

  23. Professor Longnose says:

They need to pinch hit Cervelli, so he can hit a home run.

    • smurfy says:

Nice for Robbie! 3 K’s. And nice for the fielders.

Cervelli does have the magic switch in the on position. We could use one.

  24. Professor Longnose says:

Robinson K’s the side in order in the 8th. Let’s get a run and get this over with.

  25. Professor Longnose says:

I bet this is the only game ever in which Teixeira, Cano, and Granderson batted seventh, eighth, and ninth. That may be the strongest bottom of the order ever in a regular-season MLB game.

  26. Professor Longnose says:

Time to raze the stadium and build one with a roof.

  27. Professor Longnose says:

    Error by Gardner! I’m shocked!

    Nice catch by Cano, though.

  28. Joe G says:

Can soemone whose watching comment on gardners error. I’m watching on game day and am interested in what went wrong. Thanks.

    • Professor Longnose says:

Not really sure. He got there in time, just didn’t seem to get the glove into the right spot at the right moment.

  29. smurfy says:

he was distracted by the footing. Slightly overran it.

  30. Professor Longnose says:

Looked like ball 4 to me.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a shot before showing clearly that the pitcher was not touching the rubber.

  31. Duh, Innings! says:

Do these umps even try to work?

Clearly Gregg’s foot was off the rubber by an inch or more.

    BALK!

What a joke that the homeplate ump warned Gregg to stay on the rubber. Um, so Gregg wasn’t on it and if he wasn’t why wasn’t it called a balk?

Awful at-bat by Cano. He really can’t draw a walk anymore, and that’s what will keep him from being a truly great hitter. Nice he hits .300+ but not so much if he posts no higher than .350 OBP. He should be a minimum .380 OBP guy with his talent. His current OBP is crap considering his talent.

  32. smurfy says:

Damn, Nunie! A little right on the steering wheel.

  33. Professor Longnose says:

Noesi gets it done in the 10th. A run, guys, a run.

  34. smurfy says:

    one to tie,two to win.

  35. Professor Longnose says:

I missed the top of the 11th.

    • smurfy says:

The pesky centerfielder got on via error by Nunie, stole, and was driven in on a single by Reynolds. They walked Markakis to get to him once too many.

      Slopped away from us!

  36. Professor Longnose says:

Chavez with the game on the line…

  37. smurfy says:

    See you later, Professor.

  38. Duh, Innings! says:

The Yankees need to get a veteran backup 2B/3B/SS next year.

Today’s game was at least the second game the Yanks have lost due to an error by a backup infielder (the first game was a loss due to an error by Ramiro Pena.) I’m thinking Nunez cost the Yanks another game with his defense, but I’ll say at least two games lost by backup infielders.

    That is absolutely unacceptable.

Let’s say Boston loses as well tonight. No harm no foul, right? Wrong. Had Pena and Nunez made their effing plays, the Yanks would be 4.5 games up on Boston through today and I’d say would have the division title well in hand cuz I just don’t see Boston winning it with the current rotation they have.

I am 100% down with the Yanks overpaying for a utility infielder if it means better defense moreover defense which will not cost the Yanks two games. They spent $1.5M on Eric Chavez. How much playing time was he realistically getting with Teixiera at 1B and A-Rod at 3B?

In fairness to Nunez, he blows as a backup 2B/3B/SS because SS is his natural position, he is best served playing SS every day, and he has very little experience at 3B and even less at 2B. He should play SS every day for the Scranton Yankees next year, not waste away on the bench for so long he falters in the field for being rusty with the glove.

Nice station-to-station managing by Girardi today. Two leadoff baserunners late in the game and he doesn’t bunt, steal second, or do a hit-and-run. So sick of this guy.

  39. Duh, Innings! says:

Oh yeah, EIGHTEEN errors by Nunez this year. Garbage!
