Game Thread: Blue Jays vs. Yankees, 9/3/2011 (1:05PM EST on YES)
Bartolo Colon on the bump for the Yanks, facing the always tough Ricky Romero. In 3 starts this season facing the Yanks, he’s 1-1 with a 3.00 ERA and he’s 6-0 with a 1.72 ERA in last 7 starts. Big Bart sure seems to love pitching in the daytime, in 10 games this year he’s 6-2 with a 2.36 ERA. At night, he’s 2-7 with a 4.64 ERA. In other news Tex is still out with that bruised knee, so Nick Swisher will be manning 1B.
Here’s your lineups, courtesy of LoHud:
Brett Gardner LF
Curtis Granderson CF
Alex Rodriguez 3B
Robinson Cano 2B
Nick Swisher 1B
Andruw Jones RF
Jesus Montero DH
Eduardo Nunez SS
Francisco Cervello C
GO YANKS!!!!

Damn Colon. Nice first.
Nice to see Bartolo get a nice hand, a soliloquey from Michael K, and general recognition for chucking his reserved heart out. I can never figure out what the guy is thinking, he keeps such a poker face. On his way off, he was playing with acting disgusted with himself, but acknowledged with a quiet clapping on his ballglove, the applause.
I admire this guy, wish I could understand Spanish, to hear from him.
When is this team gonna smash a #3 or better starter?
Floyd was the last one they smashed.
Another game where this ordinary, all homeruns no BA offense wilts to #3 or better (in today’s starter a #2.)
If they can’t hit Romero, how are they hitting Verlander or Wilson in the ALDS? They better pray they draw Wilson.
Beckett, Lester, Numb Nuts
Hey dickhead, Beckett and Lester were not smashed.
By smashed I mean knocked out before the fourth inning or so early you need a mopup man to come in to stop the bleeding.
But you wouldn’t know that because you’re too busy being the village idiot of the comments section with your 10-15 posts a game thread entry.
Lester 5 IP 7 H 1 ER – ONE EARNED RUN – 3 BB 6 SO
Beckett 7 IP 6 H 5 R 4 ER 3 BB 8 SO – EIGHT STRIKEOUTS IN SEVEN INNINGS
That’s 6 IP/GS, 7 SO/GS, and a combined 3.75 ERA.
Hardly “smashing” a #3 or better, Numb Nuts.
Baseball-Reference.com game logs for 2011. Try it sometime before you run your mouth to me.
‘Bout time hehe. LOL at me mispelling my username.
Where’s Professor Longnose, I just saw his match. Been a kinda slow game: no wind, Bartolo’s bad luck, the ball in the Triangle, hungover from the excitement kinda game.
The YES crew froze on the guy who mans the bullpen door, looking through the open top half, in the face of Wayne Wise, who’s slowing after his exciting, over-the-shoulder catch of Cervelli’s deep drive. Didn’t twitch an eyebrow on his 75 year old mug, a cartoon by Gallo, with his mouth in perfect negatory expression, a long upsidedown U, interrupted only by his overlapping schnoz.
Well, there’s some excitement: cano knocks in two, then Swish looks for release from the stupid bunt offense, with another.
That play by Lawrie was impressively good, but note that Cervelli ain’t exactly striking out today. Neat note from the YES crew: he’s hitting 350 in the second half.
Nice ending, Frankie and Dave! Cervie shifted his feet loudly on the two-strike pitch, setting up inside, middle, then down/away, where David delivered his cutter, perfectly.
my Player of the Game is … Francisco Cervelli!
Hahaha I guess I zipped yer lip re: Beckett and Lester.
You wanna tell me how both posting a combined 3.75 ERA in 13 IP against the Yanks a few days ago is them getting smashed?
I gotta figure out how to make a Bronx Cheer through the keyboard.
I did, but knowing how persistent and annoying you can be, why give it a clue, ever.
