Posada benched vs Righties..what’s next?
Yankee manager Joe Girardi just announced during his pregame press conference that he’s decided to play Eric Chavez as the DH for tonight, and the foreseeable future. Here’s the quotes:
@Ledger_Yankees Marc Carig
“We’re going to see how this works.” — Girardi on benching Posada.
@Ledger_Yankees Marc Carig
Posada “not happy” about being benched but admits he brought it on himself.
@BloggingBombers Mark Feinsand
Girardi: Yanks going to “try some different things” with Posada, so he’s not in the DH mix right now. Said his roster spot isn’t in trouble.
.
We all know he was already benched against left handers after the horrendous start he got off to, so to not play him against right handers has some pretty obvious implications. Apparently they’ll wait and see how Chavez fares before making a roster move, but Posada is one step closer to being released and Montero is one step closer to being called up. We all know Jorge has his share of detractors in the organization, and the GM and Manager have always had their share of issues with him, but I was hopeful a charter member of the ‘Core 4′ would at least be allowed to finish the season with the team. It hasn’t happened yet, but signs seem to be pointing in the direction where that doesn’t happen.

Would be a sad end to Posada’s career to get released, but this spectacle has gone on long enough
They won’t admit it until the day they’re going to do it, but its hard to see Jorge saving his spot on the team right now. He won’t get a chance to. He’s had 4 months to show what he has left, but at this point they’ve seen enough.
We can really has Montero Monday now?

For anyone who’s wondering why the Yanks are doing this, here’s why.
JOE IS CORRECT IN THIS MOVE…HE NEEDS TO ROTATE THE KEY PLAYERS IN THE DH SPOT, CANO’S BAT THE LAST FEW DAYS LOOKS SLOW..WOULD BE GREAT IF COULD GET TWO DAYS IN A ROW AT DH.
About time. If the Yankees want to win championships, they are going to have to play who they feel gives them the best chance every game. Generous contracts should ease the butt-hurt feelings
agree, he got an extra year with the last contract.it was a gift to him and a burden to the 25 man roster
I really don’t think the Yankees will DFA Posada. In a more rational, less sentimental organization, maybe. But Posada will just ride pine until the end of the playoffs and I can’t imagine the team wants to deal with the scrutiny and unpleasantness of a DFA.
He is going to have hurt feelings come playoff time too. I can’t see them putting him on the roster if everybody is fit to play.
What is so hard about telling him they are going to release him so if he would rather announce his retirement instead to save face he should. They will agree to pay him of course.
I don’t get the impression that he’s ready to retire so DFA’ing him would be very unpleasant for all involved.
