CC’s command a bit off, it seems.
Evening folks, nice to have an early lead for once.
Yes. Can’t really blame Posada for the DP, but it would have been nice to get another run.
Howdy, Eric, Professori. We’s gonna do it tonight!
CC is pitching with determination, but it drove him to be too fine there, to raise his pitch count. He was 0 – 2 on both guys he walked. He’ll straighten it out. He will will it.
Iron will!
Lackey, that mean squigly worm. He’ll wiggle the wrong way eventually.
The Yanks just don’t hit guys I think they should. (Of course, I think they should hit everyone.)
YESSSSS! They got Scutaro. (His wife is cute, but I still root against him.)
Swish squished one goood!
Twice, CC got Gonzalez with the slider low and away. Glad he’s got that pitch working tonite.
A TY article worries that he throws the slider too much.
Those stats were not on the beam.
I like the way this inning is shaping up. Grandy on, and Tex looks determined. Lackey starting to look scattered.
Go, Grandy, Go!
Lackey mkes hay on keepin them off balance, but that’s about 4 balls Tex has smashed, but foul.
Aw, shuckins.
Yeah! Ha, ha! Cano got him, and Grandy kept on going!
Soul satisfying! Monster music!
I just played a game of Superstar Baseball. The ’27 Yankees beat the ’98 Yankees 6-5. Bob Shawkey got the win in relief. David Wells took the loss.
I’ll take a walk to Chavez.
Or a single!
Jorge is cleaning up the mess tonite.
That Superstar baseball sounds good to learn about historic teams. Is it online?
He’s a rally killer.
Superstar Baseball has been out of print for too long, as has it’s slightly more complicated offspring, Statis-Pro Baseball. You can get fan-created player cards, and download most of the charts from other fans, but you have to get special dice, or renumber regular dice.
That sounds too complicated. Think I’ll just hi me to the library to get some good history.
That sounds good.
posada is a real bum,,how does he swing at the first pitch..two outs on one pitch..bum
no, I heard he’s a millionaire!
that is why he should quit
Got Ellsbury, but I’m still worried.
sliders got him, wth the aid of a good fb.
Terrific work by Gardner, ducking in the doorway.holding the runner at third,
Yes. But Matt I. still doesn’t want to sign him long term.
doesn’t want to sign him, but year-to-year? He’s not the smartest, but with labor, he figures out his solutions.
Depends what he costs, but assuming that defensive value is undervalued financially, the Yanks could get a bargain on Gardner.
When he’s hitting and stealing, it gives us a terrific dynamic. They definitely need him. I don’t care to do the GM’s job. ie, I don’t know which would better motivate him, year-to-year, or long-term contract.
I can’t look…
I’m telling you, that slider is cc’s salvation. The critical hit, down the left field line by Scutaro was on a changeup.
I’m not arguing; Larry Koestler is: http://www.yankeeanalysts.com/2011/08/has-cc-gotten-too-slider-happy-33606
Watch the sliding ball…watch the wiffing bat…listen to me
Ah, LK concluded that sample size was too small to mean much. But according to Pitchf/x, when Sabathia stunk, the slider stunk, too, against righties.
Ah, Cervie’s a bum! Out of the Pahk!
/fistpump
That was awesome.
He just hit that to piss me off because he knows I think he stinks.
be shitty to him some more
Oh, shit. CC’s gotta tough up here. Thanks God we had Big ass Papi chugging andclogging.
Call an ambulance. I just had a heart attack.
Woah, that liner looked like a killer!
CC’s last slider? Whifff!
diddly damn! We gotta make hay on Hackey.
Sabathia in the 6th? OK, but short leash.
yeah, pitch count up, results a bit dicey…
wow, chavez deserves extra credit for staying with that weird hop, and getting him.
Boy, Ellsbury is the devil. Can’t get him out. Only thing that makes Gardy look bad.
Gonzalez CC’s last batter either way.
prolly so, 129 pitches probably enough for Joe, with our strong bulpen.
Yeah! whew. Two good fastballs got Gonzalez finally. He wised up to the slider outside. Can’t beat the drum so plain on sucha smart hitter.
Thanks for the baserunner, proud Ruddy Sox! Hee, hee. Hope you eat it, hackey Lackey!
Gobble, gobble.
Typical classy Sox
They’ve been hitting Yankees by the bunch for years.
Send Sabathia out to the mound to clock the first hitter in the 7th.
no, he’s gotta wait for two out, nobody on. Better yet, fuggedaboudit.
Cervie scored, that’ll learn him, for now.
Yeah, don’t give them free baserunners. Take the high road.
Now maybe a bunt by Gardner.
Now THAT’s a bunt!
yeah! and if he can steal, that’ll drive Lackey up the wall.
He’s trying, but Jeter keeps fouling off pitches.
happens
Belated, but, thanks for the free base runner, Mouth Breather.
got heem
Definitely hoping the Yankee don’t throw at someone.
Cory Wade? Co-Ro-Mo?
wow, that Peedy pop almost made it to the Monster. Whew.
Joe’s yanking Cory right out of there. Think the Yankee brass doesn’t care?
They don’t care enough not to use the pitcher with the worst ERA in the majors.
not here, please
that is right on..
definitely Derek Jeter, the best managerial candidate. Yankees.
Double play, double play, double play…
Bases juiced. No whammies.
Some little dooche with a cap inside out is standing right next to Joe, so he has to hear his twaddle. They should give ‘em a little privacy.
Yahoo! Boooone.
Think of the children!
Yeah, do me a favor, and keep ‘em out of earshot.
Pop one, Swish!
Nice – keeping the pressure on!
Runs here will definitely help.
phoo-bah!
Cervelli stinks! He can’t hit for shit!
that, mein friend, was aninteresting at-bat. Keep thirsty.
yeah, especially Ellsbury.
Javier Vazquez shut out the Mets for 7 innings tonight.
hehr.
wow, wow, wowee! Gardner!
Gardner! Gardner! Gardner!
got it covered!
guess it didn’t matter that it was Ellsbury, since they’re down 3, he wasn’t stealing.
Hardly the greatest inning ever pitched, but Soriano got it done.
maybe it will charge him up to do better tomorrow, let’s hope.
Nice play by Peedy.
Should have hung on to Aceves.
yeah, he was good under pressure, good for mopup, good for short, good for long. Loved his flexibility. Hate that the RS got him.
Three up, three down on three pitches?
Well, alright. Down to Mo. 3 run lead. Time to watch Mr. Graceful do his dance.
go for a little drama? maybe Big Sloppy will get stuck at third.
OK, but not too much.
ow, Salty looks hurt, his wrist.
Joe should take it easy, he wasn’t swinging when the pitch arrived.
Wow. Girardi is actually pissed!
yeah, it WAS a swing, officially. But he was trying o check, get out of the way at the end. In Russia, it would be swing, no hit by pitch, even if your arm is broken.
about time
see? no sweat. Leave it to the best reliever ever was.
Had ‘em all the way.
As always, a pleasure. ‘Night.
nighty, night, Professor!
A win. Now all we need to win the series is a little luck tomorrow or a miracle Thursday.
Man, I love our commenters. I don’t always get to chime in, but I read ‘em all since they get e-mailed to me. Great game, all.
thanks, Larry. Love this place!
The Yanks got angry, finally.
I’ve newfound respect for Cervelli. LOL at the picture of him in Saltamacchia’s catcher-masked face on the Yankees Lohud blog. Always a catcher’s mask on, sigh.
Lackey should’ve been tossed and should be suspended for hitting Cervelli because that HBP was intentional.
we will need a touch down and extra point and a field goal to win thursday
