Check out the hourly forecast from Accuweater. I don’t see how they’re going to get this one in. There’s a 2 hour window around 1:00 where the chance of rain drops to 40-50%, then shoots back up to 90% for the rest of the day. If they do play, they’ll be dancing between the raindrops and this one might get called early. I live in Queens, and with the way its raining right now they won’t even attempt to start the game. You need a bit of a window just to allow the field to drain, and its coming down steadily.

Here’s the lineup, courtesy of LoHud:

1. Gardner LF
2. Jeter SS
3. Granderson CF
4. Teixeira 1B
5. Cano 2B
6. Swisher RF
7. Chavez 3B
8. Posada DH
9. Martin C

AJ Burnett starting in place of the “injured” Freddy Garcia. You know what would really be great? Burnett starts, and the game gets called after 3 innings. Then whatever he does won’t count and we won’t have to see our little Billy Idol impersonator for the rest of the week. If they do play, use this as your game thread. If not, use it as an open thread. GO YANKS!

EDIT 11:00 AM-Just got the tweet from Yankee PR, the game has been rained out. No word of a makeup date yet, but the Rays will be back in the Bronx in the 3rd week of September, just before the Sox come in. Rosters are expanded then, so a double header is no biggie.

If Toronto loses today to go 60-60 / .500 :

The Yanks will have only 3 games against an above .500 team from tomorrow until 8/30 when they go up to Fenway for three 8/30-9/1 and those would be the only games they’d play against an above .500 team untl 9/9 when they begin a three-game 9/9-11 series at the Angels. This amount doubles if Toronto wins today to go 61-59.

Btw not cool that MLB has the Yanks on the road and so far away from home on the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. Why don’t you tell the terrorists you’re scared of an attack that weekend, Jeez. The Yanks should be playing at home that weekend as a big FUCK YOU to all terrorists that they’re not doing shit to us again. Sorry for the cursing but it annoys me esp. if the Mets are away, too, cuz that just comes off like you’re scared, MLB, sorry. Also if the Mets are at home, the Yanks don’t have a chance to pay respects to the dead and homage to the men and women who died trying to and did save lives at home.) Both teams should’ve been playing in NY that weekend.

Half of the Yanks remaining 44 games will be against teams with currently .500 or better records.

Of these 22 games against currently .500 or better teams, 16 games will be against currently above .500 teams.

Of these 16 games against currently above .500 teams, 13 will be against the Rays (7) and Red Sox (6) and 10 of these 13 games will be the final 10 games of the year.

The Yanks would play only 6 games with currently above .500 teams between now and 9/20 when they begin a home series against the Rays (this amount doubles if Toronto wins today to go 61-59, but the Yanks could still play just 4 against above .500 teams in September until 9/20 – Boston 9/1 and a three-game series at the Angels 9/9-11 – if Toronto is .500 or worse on 9/1 / going into Yankee Stadium 9/2.)

This bodes well for the Yanks to win the division.

‘Just checked the Mets’ schedule. They play the Cubs at home on 9/11. Great job MLB. Way to not have both NY teams at home.

And the Yanks won’t be able to pay their respects at the Stadium until 9/19 (makeup game against the Twins) barring a rainout of that game.

I wonder if the nine-game roadtrip starting 9/8 (off-day where the Yanks travel to or are already in LA) and the Yanks playing 12 of their final 19 games away is MLB saying they don’t want people coming to Yankee Stadium on or around the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. If so, that is a pathetic, cowardly move by MLB as well as a disrespectful one.

Many suffered losses in those attacks and it would’ve been nice to not only see the Yanks playing at home, but to have the chance to go to a home game during that time. Leave it to MLB to deprive them of that chance. Also money reigns again with only five affordable home games after 9/7 (the makeup game vs. the Twins 9/19 and four vs. the Rays 9/20-22 including a doubleheader my guess 9/21 which is a day game and so the Yanks don’t play it 9/22 the day before a three-game homeset vs. the Red Sox which will be the usual cost of a semester at a CUNY or SUNY.) Only two of these five games will be at night (9/20 and the night game of the doubleheader on my guess 9/21.) Labor Day (9/5) game tickets to the Os will be a bitch to get (as LD tix are always) and it’s hard to go to the next two games 9/6-7 with school starting, so your only very good chance to see the Yanks at home next month is three vs. Toronto 9/2-4.

Can you believe this shit re: the weekend of 9/11?

The Red Sox play at Tampa Bay, the Orioles at Toronto that weekend, besides the Yanks playing at the Angels that weekend.

So, basically, MLB is letting the terrorists win by sending three East Coast teams to California, Florida, and Canada. COWARDS!

At least they let the Mets play at home. I’m checking the Phillies’ schedule right after this (no edit.)

The Phillies play at Milwaukee 9/11 weekend.

    What a disgrace.

Now I’m checking the Braves although they’re landlocked but close enough to water and the Marlins (Miami, coastal/port city.) The Braves play at St.Louis and the Marlins play at Pittsburgh.
