If Nova pitches well tonight and Hughes pitches well Tuesday, it should be Hughes/Garcia/Sabathia vs. the Angels, Colon/Nova/Hughes vs. the Rays.

The Yanks should start Burnett at Kansas City 8/15. If he’s bad in that start, he should be given one final chance at Minnesota 8/21 and if he’s bad in that start as well, he should be removed from the rotation. Three strikes and you’re out (Chicago last night, KC, and Minny.)

  2. Duh, Innings! says:

Two scoreless innings by Nova. If he posts 6-7 IP 0-2 ER, he stays (should stay) in the rotation.

    Hughes/Garcia/Sabathia vs. the Angels
    Colon/Nova/Hughes vs. the Rays
    Burnett/Sabathia/Garcia vs. the Royals
    Colon/Nova/Hughes/Sabathia vs. the Twins

I meant Burnett vs.the As not the Twins for one last chance.

    Sabathia pitches on normal rest.

  3. Duh, Innings! says:

    Nova 5 IP 1 R

Burnett 8/15 @ KC. He cannot face the Angels or Rays.

I want the Yanks to re-sign Eric Chavez for another year to be the full-time DH/backup 1B-3B or someone who shares DH with another veteran. I absolutely love this guy and pull for him to get a World Series ring with the Yanks. What if the Yanks let him go and he has a 2011 Lance Berkman-type 2012 somewhere else? He’s only 33 and turns 34 on December 7th. That’s not old at all. I know he’s injury-prone but he’d be low-risk high-reward if he could be had cheaply.
A year and $2M base where he makes more the more at-bats he collects and he gets bonuses for winning awards?

Btw can YES 86 this anti-smoking commercial? It’s annoying, grating, and paternal. If you smoke and don’t know what smoking could do to you by now, you will never know, and if you don’t care, I doubt a commerical with a guy making noises will make you care. I go into the kitchen to make a sandwich and hear this guy making noises and it’s just…enough already. EVERY commercial break?

      Now 6 IP 1 R :)

      More run support Yanks!!!

Bedard flopped, 6-3 Indians bottom of the 7th haha although it’s not over yet as the Red Sox have comeback in them.

  4. X says:

Gardner safe at home, Yanks up 2-1, woo-hoo! Adam DONE hahaha.

Go Yanks! Go Tribe! How nice would it be if the Yanks went into Fenway tied for first? Even if they dropped two of three, they’d be only a game behind Boston.

  5. Mike says:

Humber “pitched beautifully” according to Michael Kay. Really? Dude gave up 4 runs in 6 1/3 IP. Hardly “beautiful”. Nova is pitching a beautiful game and one more goose egg in the 7th will make it a gem.

Sometimes I wonder what game Kay is watching.

Anyone else agree with me that Kay is an arrogant buffoon who is getting more intolerable by the year? E.g. last night with the play where Chavez picked up the ball when it was rolling back fair. Kay literally cried “Why did he pick it up?!!” twice before realizing the ball would’ve rolled fair even if Chavez didn’t pick it up.

  6. Mike says:

Awww Derek (or to Kay “Derig” cuz Kay pronounces his Cs and Ks like Gs e.g. second/segond, sacrifice/sagrifice) whaddaya doin?!! Pickoff at 2B, LOL!

  7. smurfy says:

Ivan 10K Nova says, “How do you lika me now?”

  8. smurfy says:

Holy moly, Russell, you’re gonna get the fat lady singing. There, I think I hear “mimimimi.”

Tied for predominance with the Rud Sox, who we are scheduled meet and beat all weekend!

    Yabadabadooo!

  9. Duh, Innings! says:

Nova pitched 7 2/3 IP and gave up only one run and you could argue he’d have pitched shutout ball if not for the botched pickoff attempt of the guy who scored.

He cannot repeat CANNOT be taken out of the rotation!!! If he is, Cashman and Girardi are officially the Yankees biggest enemy, not the Red Sox, Tigers, Rangers, or any other team.

For Girardi to say Burnett stays in the rotation based on Burnett’s past and body of work is either sheer lunacy or him being someone who has no say in whether Burnett remains in the rotation and doesn’t want to throw Burnett under the bus. I hope it’s the latter. Burnett was a #2 exactly ONE year: his walk year with the Blue Jays Cashman ridiculously gave him the fifth-largest contract for a pitcher in MLB history on.

The Yankees are becoming a fix what ain’t broke organization and I’m really getting sick of it. Nova goes 8-4 with a 4.12 ERA then gets sent down. He gets called back up, delivers two excellent starts, and there’s talk about him getting sent down? 10-4, sub 4 ERA – are you kidding me?!! This kid is in next year’s Yankees rotation to at least start the year on this start tonight. I’ve backed this guy from day one and long after that before his two return starts. I clamored for Burnett being thrown out of the rotation if he doesn’t shape up before entries on here talking about his status in the rotation were made.

The Boston, Detroit, Texas, Los Angeles, and Tampa Bay GMs must all laugh at Cashman at what a nitwit he is. They’re all praying Nova is taken out of the rotation and Cashman can’t see it. I officially hate Cashman and hope he is let go, Yanks winning it all or not. He got lucky with Jones, Chavez, Garcia, and Colon just like he got lucky with Small and Chacon in 2005, and it’s not like he signed completely unknown quantities outside of Colon e.g. Jones who did smack 19 HR in part-time play last year. The only players he’s developed who have been worth a hoot for the Yanks long-term are Cano, Gardner, and Robertson. That’s not impressive when you’ve been the GM since 1998. Yeah they helped the Yanks win a World Series, but where’s the long-term starting pitcher? The jury is still out on Hughes and Nova long-term. Cashman ruined Joba.

  10. smurfy says:

…and here’s Adam, just to prove they’re Dunn.

  11. smurfy says:

    oh, nooo! He lives yet!

ouch, just when they needed it, too.

wawawawa…waaa. Man, did we sweep their butts!

  12. smurfy says:

They will not send Ivan down, probably won’t miss a start. Long as he keeps serving up that sweet home cooking, we’ll be eating Nova stew!

  13. Duh, Innings! says:

The Yanks are playing with house money going into Fenway.

If they sweep Boston, they’re in first place by three games.

If they take two out of three, they’re in first place by a game.

If they lose two out of three, they’re only a game out of first, big deal. The only bummer of this outcome is Boston wins the season series with 10 wins which means they win the division if they finish tied with the Yanks, but does anyone expect the Yanks to take the next nine against Boston for a 10-8 season series victory? I’d LMAO if it happened but I doubt it’ll happen.

‘Key is for them to not get swept (three games back) but say they did. Ok, ya gain even just a game on Boston the rest of the month and beat Boston on 9/1, you’re a game behind Boston through 9/1 with plenty of baseball to play after that and Boston has only three cracks at you to hurt you 9/23-25.

  14. X says:

The Yanks have a pretty light rest of the way schedule in terms of opposing offenses cuz who outside of Boston really hits?

Los Angeles, Tampa Bay, Kansas City, Minnesota, Oakland, Baltimore, Toronto, and Seattle have offenses which scare no one.

I’m not even concerned with Boston with Garcia/Sabathia/Colon going for the Yanks this weekend and any two or all three could face Boston late next month.

  15. Sweep complete, now on to Boston… GO YANKEES!

  16. smurfy says:

Hey, I got the solution to the 6 pitcher quandary: have Ivan or phil prepare to pitch the same day as AJ, as the substitute. (The other, each go-round, has a regular start.) AJ put on notice, as soon as he sees trouble, he’s out of there. It’ll shame him into pitching clean innings.

Excuse me. I gotta put this in the suggestion box. Where is it, btw?

    • X says:

      Your plan won’t work.

You can’t hold out two pitchers to be a mopup man. Other games to play where pitchers are needed.

Sabathia, Garcia, or Colon could get bombed one game.
