Yanks and A’s are in the top of the third right now; CC’s looked great, save for that homer against Crisp.

  1. smurfy says:

glad to hear CC’s confidence on the pre-game, but seems tenuous again. This guy deserves a week off.

    Ha-lo, Yankee fans!

  2. Professor Longnose says:

A week off? If he wants.

  3. smurfy says:

Yeah, howdy, he’s needed it for a couple weeks now. The Red Sox are resting their war horses.

  4. smurfy says:

Now, that’s the way to do a bunt: by accident, when you’d be out anyway.

  5. smurfy says:

Ah, then Nunie does it, can’t believe it. “Course, it’s kinda good he didn’t move: Grandy couldn’t run to home on that. UNless he drew a throw! Learnanother lesson, Nunie!.

  6. Professor Longnose says:

Do the Yanks have a moral objection to getting a hit with runners on?

  7. smurfy says:

    Brett too fine, again.

He’ll figure it out, next season.

  8. smurfy says:

    How ya feelin’, Mr. Loongenose?

You seem a bit tardy, for gummint work.

    • Professor Longnose says:

Tired, worn out. I won’t be around for a couple of days. I’m going up to see the New York State Fair on Friday.

  9. smurfy says:

    Get ‘im! Out! O – U – T !

Tell me, anyone, defense doesn.t count…

Hell, it’s the heart of the game!

  10. That ball by Swisher was a shot. Nice.

    • smurfy says:

      yeah, good ol’ swish.

I been tellin’ him not to hit it to DEAD center.

      • Professor Longnose says:

They should offer him a 3-year contract in the off season.

        • smurfy says:

2 year, YES. Big time, Nicky. But why extend into nowhere land, never, never, never. If you want him for the credible period, bargain high for that period. Don’t extent into fuckupfantasyland.

          • Professor Longnose says:

He’s only 30 and he’s had one bad year his whole career. If 2 doesn’t do it, I’d go 3.

            • smurfy says:

if 2 doesn’t do it, try a little higher. And remind him, if he thinks he’ll be so good, he gets to sell himself AGAIN!

              • Professor Longnose says:

He won’t be selling himself just to the Yankees. I’d think he’ll get offers.

Edit: Never mind. He’s not a FA. The Yanks have an option on him, and they’ll probably just pick it up for 1 year.

  11. smurfy says:

Damn, that’s a fast 90 mph, that Fuentes throws. The ball looks much faster, from back here. Me wonders about the timings of the triggers on the gun.

  12. Professor Longnose says:

    Another RISPout. Boo.

  13. Professor Longnose says:

I didn’t expect Girardi to tak ehim out. Not sure why he did, except on general rest principles.

    • smurfy says:

Correct me if I’m wrong. Whilst I was pondering other things, lkemaking sure all of these f* keys hit, but Joe G. went out to see CC, and did NOT take him out, the first time. Right?

Like, the first time in recorded history?

  14. smurfy says:

wow, thanks god jeter stayed awake: that was the most graceful double play, that the devil may care.

  15. Professor Longnose says:

I don’t know about UZR, but Tex ain’t hittin’ shit lately.

  16. smurfy says:

oh, shoot! I’m offically a whiner,’cause I was thinkin’ (wishin’), that there was a man on.

  17. smurfy says:

That was your at bat, Prof. Oouch!

Yeah, I know, we addressed that already, but Mo is in! Whatcjhout!!!

  18. Professor Longnose says:

    One Mo K!

  19. smurfy says:

Ohhh, that’s what I’m talking about.

  20. smurfy says:

Hey, Brandon didn’t break that bat.

ie, the second one, that did not resist.

  21. Professor Longnose says:

Goddamm it, that sonuvabitch Gardner ain’t hittin’ SHIT lately!

  22. Professor Longnose says:

    Walk it off, Grandy!

  23. smurfy says:

Was that the same De Los Santos that blew it by us last time?

  24. Professor Longnose says:

Why hasnb’t Soriano pitched in so long? He’s rusty.

  25. Professor Longnose says:

    Good curve from Soriano.

  26. smurfy says:

well, good night, professor. I know you’ve got a lot of traffc to beat…

  27. smurfy says:

Nothin like a high line drive to right, Nicko!

  28. smurfy says:

Who’s pitching tomorrow? Tell ‘im it’s time to win. wanno go into beantown on top, and step down on their sorry necks.

  29. Duh, Innings! says:

Once again the Yankees did not smack around a #3 or better starter.

They didn’t smack up Cahill, McCarthy, Liriano, Chen, Price, Lester, Lackey, Beckett, Peavy, or Haren. A rainout spared them facing Shields, a suspension spared them facing Weaver, they missed Ervin Santana, and they missed Mark Buerhle.

The only #3 or better starter they smacked around this month was Floyd.

This team can’t hit a good starter hard.

Let’s see them pull this crap vs. Verlander/Scherzer/Porcello/Penny and Ugando/Wilson/Harrison/Holland/Lewis in the ALDS. Tigers or Rangers in 4 if the Yanks hit like this.

    • Duh, Innings! says:

They also didn’t smack around Chatwood.

    • If memory serves me right, they’ve hit Porcello hard and have destroyed Ogando in the recent past.

      • Duh, Innings! says:

I’m talking about August only and recent times.

        Porcello 7 IP 8 H 2 R 2 ER beat the Yanks 5/5:

        http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/DET/DET201105050.shtml

Ugando had a bad day. You gonna tell me they’ll 4.50 ERA (run every two innings) smack around Verlander? I doubt they will.

4 vs. the Chi-Sox: They smacked up Floyd, but didn’t smack up Peavy or face Buerhle..

3 vs. the Red Sox: They didn’t smack up any Red Sox starter.

3 vs. the Angels: They missed Weaver and Santana, and didn’t smack up Haren or Chatwood.

2 vs. D-Rays: They didn’t smack up Price or face Shields.

3 vs. the Royals: The one game they lost was the one the Royals’ ace by default Chen started.

4 vs. the Twins: The one game they lost was the one Liriano started (Liriano is at least a #3.)

2 vs. Oakland: They didn’t smack up Cahill.

If Gio Gonzalez starts for the As tomorrow afternoon and the Yanks don’t smack him around, it’d be yet another #3 or better starter they laid down against.

Are you the new Chris T.O. i.e. dude who feels he has to get into it with me every post? Back off.

You’re wrong about Porcello vs. the Yanks in 2011.

      • Duh, Innings! says:

Porcello pitched 7 innings of shutout ball against the Yanks for the win 5/12/10 then got 5 IP 6 ER smacked around by the Yanks 8/19/11.

He got smacked around by the Yanks on 4/29/09, his fourth career MLB start.

He’s 2-1 against the Yanks the past two years.

        • Duh, Innings! says:

Bottom line/point is lately/this month the Yanks have lost most of the time when they draw a #3 or better starter and it is alarming this late in the season. When the only guy like that you’ve smacked up is Floyd, it tells me you could easily get swept or knocked out in four in the ALDS if you hit like shit against the Tigers or Rangers (or Indians who have three #3 or betters in Masterson, Tomlin, and Jimenez, and you could argue Carmona is a #3 in general even though I don’t think he’s been that good this year, I haven’t kept up on him much.)

Ugando was 6.1 IP 5 ER crap then even worse the next time against the Yanks, but the tide could turn come October. I hope it doesn’t, but it could. Ugando is talented enough to give the Rangers 6 IP 0-3 ER vs. the Yanks, hopefully he doesn’t.

  30. smurfy says:

Oh, good,Phil. He’ll pitch well. The stoppa!

  31. Duh, Innings! says:

An idea for the 2012 Scranton Yankees since they have to play all their home games away due to the season-long renovation of their ballpark:

24 home games in Buffalo, 24 in Rochester, and 24 in Syracuse, or 18 games in each city and 18 in a ballpark in the Hudson Valley.

All their home games would be in upstate NY.

They’d play in three IL League ballparks if they didn’t play in the Hudson Valley ballpark.

They could start in the Hudson Valley or Syracuse ballpark and work their way up to Buffalo when the weather is warmest.

Reports say they’d have to play in two ballparks since they can’t play all their home games at one ballpark cuz it’s too taxing and impossible schedule-wise. It could be 36 in Syracuse and 36 in Rochester, too.

Hopefully they play as far away from the NYC media spotlight as possible. I don’t want Banuelos, Betances, Montero etc. feeling like they have to be superstars cuz they’re in the land of The Big Club. Let these kids develop in anonymity. The A-club develops in anonymity cuz no one from A-ball gets called up to the Yanks.

Too bad the Yanks chose Scranton to be the location of their AAA team. I would’ve loved for them to move to Albany, the state capital. A team on Staten Island, AAA in Albany, AA team in NY one day (Long Island)??? All Yankee minor league affliates in NY, NY sees all minor league dollars.
