3 cheers for Chavez! 354 boos for Cervelli! Anyway, Chavez is back which means that much less of Nunez, which is always a good thing. Meanwhile, the Mariners haven’t won in over two weeks and it’s beyond ugly at this point. How much worse could it get? With Sabathia pitching tonight, it’ll be a tough task for the M’s.

Where are all the commenters at tonight?? I guess CC vs the Mariners just isn’t drawing them in like it used too….

    You’ve read it here first:

C.C. Sabathia will pitch a no-hitter against the Seattle Mariners tonight.

  3. Frank says:

CC is on tonight. Unfortunately, I think this rain delay hurts his his chances for a perfecto.

  4. Sean P. says:

Wow, that sucked. Tough break for CC

  5. Frank says:

As a side note, are any of you old enough to remember Jack McDowell? He pitched for the Yanks in ’95- but primarily with the WS before that. Anyway, Fister is a dead ringer for him- same build, very similar delivery and mound presence.

Anyone remember when Jack McDowell flipped the bird to the Yankee Stadium crowd? LOL

The photo of him doing that made the back of the N.Y. Daily News.

If memory serves me that game was sometime in ’95 against the Chi-Sox.

good one frank. i remember mcdowell most for being brought in by showalter in extra innings in the 95 playoffs. one of the worst moves ever

How many dropped third strikes by Cervelli tonight? Four?

When oh when will the Yankees make Posada the backup catcher, send down Cervelli, and call up Montero to be the DH?

Give Cervelli one more start at C 7/30 (first game of a doubleheader) then send him down and call up Montero 8/1 and start Posada 8/14 (rubber game of a series with Tampa Bay) and 8/29 (last game of a four-game series at Baltimore) with the days off 8/8 and 8/22.

The Yankees are not going to have Posada catch this year because if he gets another head injury, his health/life could seriously be at risk.Cashman addressed this in some short statements over the winter.

Now, I know some have said Posada would be the emergency catcher, but, don’t hold your breath on this. If you were Girardi, would you want to risk having this on your conscience for a baseball game? It would be a bad day for Yankee fans all over,if something happened.

I wouldn’t doubt that Jorge would be raring to go, but there’s probably some kind of understanding behind the scenes to not do this.

  8. T.O. Chris says:

Montero is hopefully starting to heat up. On Monday Montero went 2-4 with a HR, while walking once and striking out twice. He followed that up by going 3-4 on Tuesday, with his 10th HR, 4 RBI, and striking out once.

Montero is now up to 10 HRs and 47 RBI on the season, and he has raised his OPS to .794. If he can continue this, and go on a hot streak somewhat like his second half last season (and doesn’t get traded). He could be on pace for a call up in August. Teams still seem to be running all over Montero on the base paths, but I think we will all be happy as long as his bat starts to play as we all expect.
