During last night’s game word came that the Yankees signed minor league hurler Brian Gordon, and may start him on Thursday afternoon against the Rangers. Gordon has been in the Phillies’ system this season, and per RAB, he has pitched to a 2.55 FIP in nine starts and three relief appearances (55.1 IP) with the Triple-A Lehigh Valley IronPigs. He’s also leading the International League with a 1.14 ERA.

    Iron Pigs LOL.

The Yankees farm system sucks so badly, there’s talk of a Phillies AAA castoff with a couple of games of MLB experience all in 2008 making the start Thursday, and not just on this blog.

If a YANKEE FARMHAND isn’t good enough to make the start, why would any team out there want one in a trade? There isn’t ONE Yankee farmhand who could give at least five innings?

I’d start Noesi or some other Yankees farmhand because starting Gordon is saying you don’t have anyone you’ve developed in your farm system good enough to make two starts (assuming whoever starts Thursday gets a fair shake via a second start next Tuesday.) Starting Gordon sends a bad message to your kids.

I like this move. He may not be a major league vet by traditonal standards, but at 32 he likely isn’t going to be overwhelmed by the moment. The only real possible starter we have on the farm is Phelps, and while I would like to see him pitch he could still use some seasoning. Gordon is a good choice because if he does well he gets another start, and if he doesn’t you DFA him and never miss a beat.

I for one want the Yankees to stick with their plans on Hector Noesi, he is never going to be a legit starter and to have him start one game now only further delays when he can come back to the pen. I have heard the Yankees want to start using him in a more important role out of the pen, in 1-2 inning stretches. I think that is perfect for Noesi, much like the Alfredo Aceves role, not quite a starter but valuable in other roles.
