Sabathia, Yankees salvage set; do to Mariners exactly what good teams are supposed to do to Seattle
After two long, late nights that both resulted in rather frustrating losses, I took today’s game off. I did periodically check in on Gameday, but I literally did not see one pitch. And thankfully, CC Sabathia and the Yankees came to play, beating the Mariners 7-1 in the series finale.
Sabathia had his third straight start of at least eight innings, fanning five, walking three and giving up one earned run. On offense, Curtis Granderson picked up three more hits, Nick Swisher launched a solo home run (only his third of the season), and the Yankees actually scored five of their seven runs with two outs. Nice to see that slop-throwing lefty Jason Vargas wasn’t fooling anyone.
With Boston apparently primed to never lose a game ever again (the Red Sox have won 13 of their last 15, and depending on the outcome of the second game of their doubleheader tonight, will either be one or two games up on the Yankees in first place come tomorrow morning), the Bombers are going to have to continue to step their game up and play the kind of baseball we know they’re capable of going forward.

I know what you mean, Larry. I HATE the games on the Left Coast, too. Even here in Texas, the games don’t start until 9:05 p.m. our time and they often go until well after midnight. Ugh.
CC survived the Dangerous Dean curse to win his game even though he is on two of my fantasy baseball teams. Congrats to the big man.

My father always said “as long as you are within four games of first on memorial day every thing is fine.” And,i believe that to be true. I honestly check the standings maybe every two weeks before the asb. few teams lead wire to wire, why drive yourself nuts
