Finally the Texas series is almost over, which means this is the final game I have to watch the most homer bias broadcast in baseball! I can’t wait to get back to the YES network next series!
We should be able to get a comfortable win in this one boys, CC on the hill vs Bush is setup for us. Certainly a better matchup than Ogando.
Jeter has been so awful on the base paths this year! He has screwed up at least 4 or 5 tags already this season, I just have never seen someones all around game fall apart so bad in so short a time.
Bad control early on for Sabathia, and as good as his numbers have been this season the biggest reason he is lacking in the wins department is because his control has yet to be spot on in any start this season. Odd for Sabathia for sure!
As I recall, it’s not that odd for early in the season, but I could be misremembering.
He seems to be showing better velocity early in the season this year but not as good a control as I’m use to.
The Rangers fans are making me angry, they cheered yesterday when Teixeira almost got hit up and in, and now they cheer when Alex does get hit up in between the shoulder blades! Poor show of class!
I hadn’t noticed, but yeah, that’s lousy.
Honestly it’s embarrassed me to even think these people represent my state to outsiders who may not know anything about Texas.
I hate Boston with a passion but I would never cheer at someone being hit or thrown at near the head.
hmmm. boston, let me think about that one
A Jeter homer! What we’ve been waiting for.
4 for 4 with two homers! On the radio they were saying that Jeter is now the only Yankee hitting. His average is actually higher than every other regular except Cano.
As of the current ABs Jeter is up to .281 (4/4), Granderson is at .283 (3/4) and Cano is down to .290.
The radio crew was saying .275 for Jeter and .295 for Cano, so it must have been right at the moment.
Yeah, I just checked the MLB.com Gameday active live box score that updates per at bat.
Love to see Granderson slugging period, but when he’s hitting lefties for power like he has this season he is truly a special player!
With 2 HRs for Jeter and yet another HR off a lefty for Granderson I feel like we stumbbled into the bizzaro world haha.
I can’t even believe the Rangers broadcasters are trying to say that Arod hit should be an error. When you smoke a ball so hard it nearly knocks your 3rd baseman down it’s not an error, even if he does manage to throw towards first.
I didn’t see it–had to turn my attention elsewhere for a few seconds–but Michale Kay was also questioning the scoring decision. He must have thought it was an error, too.
I watched it off the bat and never even thought about it being an error. It bounced off of Beltre because of how hard it was hit, it popped into the air and he caught and threw wild to first but Alex had the speed to beat it out without the throw. The only way I can see them questioning it is if they thought he only reached on the throw.
Now Kay is questioning the hit for Beltre that Rodriguez misplayed.
That looked more like a mental error and you can’t award an actual error for that. He should have just thrown to first instead of hoping he could go to home first, but it’s still a hit.
Doesn’t that usually go as a fielder’s choice?
He threw to first, he just looked to home…
Granderson now has 5 HRs with a SLG% well over .700 against lefties (32 ABs) now with that last HR. Compapre that with the fact that he has hit 6 HRs against righties in 78 ABs.
It’s really amazing how much he has turned it around early on in the season.
He doesn’t even have to be nearly that good against lefties the whole season to be great overall.
I was actually shocked to see that Granderson is second in the AL in overall SLG%, second only to Jose Bautista, and since he made his swing adjustment he is second in baseball in HRs to Bautista going back to last season.
I heard that HR stat. Pretty amazing.
He actually tried to say he wasn’t a power hitter yesterday, I was like then what are you haha. He backed it up by saying when they do HR BP he always loses, I was like year, you’re on a team with Alex Rodriguez, Mark Teixeira, and Robinson Cano, it doesn’t mean you aren’t a HR hitter haha.
and the guy is beltre
Side note to the game, Hosmer is 2/3 with his first RBI.
NO BUNT!!!!!! WAAAAAAAA HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
Haha looks like we had the same thought Professor.
And I bet we weren’t alone.
Somewhere I’m sure Moshe and Steve are celebrating haha.
Good to see Gardner not bunting their!
Cervelli Grand Slam!!!!!!!
How in the hell can the Rangers broadcast say he only hit that HR because of a “jet stream”, he hit it to dead center.
Now, that’s homerism.
A grand slam by Cervelli–maybe the world really will end on May 21.
You should’ve heard the call, it sounded like he was calling a walk. People may not like Kay, but the man calls a game that any fan can at least listen to. Sometimes I think he gives a little too emphatic “see yaa!” for the other teams HR.
Hell the Rangers broadcast actually “puts in the call” for when they think a Ranger will hit a HR.
I don’t really have a problem with homerism. I hate listening to a Yankee game and hearing Yankee announcers run down the Yankees. I don’t mind rooting a little–or even Phil Rizzuto style. What I hate is when announcers change their evaluation of the plays happening by the uniform players are wearing. You know, when a home team player boots a grounder and the announces will make it out to be a tough play when it really wasn’t, or they’ll say, “Boy, he really stayed with that!” like chasing after a ground ball that bounced off your chest is a special skill.
I just don’t care for homerism… If you want to make it known that you root for the team that pays you there are better ways to do it. To me it’s just part of being a professional.
The Rangers have a K zone, if they show their K zone and it shows a ball if it’s a Yankee batter they will say “it’s close enough to the strike zone”, but if they show their K zone with a Ranger batter and it’s just on the zone they will say “It’s not completely accurate” or “it shows it as a strike but I think that was a ball”.
They actually yell at called third strikes in the first inning, they did so yesterday when Jeter struckout to start the game. Cool it down some, we have 26 outs to go man.
They also cut away from the other teams at bats so they can interview fans in the stands who have face paint, or who are getting married soon, or something stupid like that. I’ve missed pitches and hits because they are interviewing some dude who painted his chest.
Sounds ghastly. I basically hate all in-game interviews. I want to see the game, not listen to a bunch of meaningless cliches.
(Of course, I wouldn’t have missed Kim Jones’ pork chop for the world. But that’s a once-in-a-lifetime happening.)
Let’s put it this way, I would rather never listen to anything but NESN than have to sit through one more Texas game this weekend.
Seriously with the interviews, unless you have some real information get off… Guys with chest paint, really?
How are the Texas radio guys? I don’t get the Rangers TV feeds, but I have gameday audio so I could check them out.
I’ve never given the radio guys a listen, at least with TV I can mute the game and just throw on some music or something. However I doubt they could be worse.
Tom Grieve and John Rhadigan do the play by play on TV if you want to know.
only when we get up it is in the jet stream, funny i still haven’t seen any jets..
Home run number 9 for Teixeira! Eppley will probably want to forget this day!
Great game and great discourse, thanks for making it more entertaining Professor!
Side note: Lance Pendleton went to my High School! He graduated a year or two before me.
I enjoyed the conversation, too. Hope to see you around here again.
I’m always on when I get the chance!
Apparently “the difference in this game was the Yankees taking advantage of the jet stream”.
On the radio, Sterling admitting that Jeter and Girardi snuck into the stadium earlier in the day and put the jet stream there in such a way that only the Yankees could use it.

LOL @ Sterling’s uncovering of the Yankees’ diabolical jet stream plot!!!
Anybody else notice a strange statistical anomaly in the standings this morning … seven teams have more wins than the Yankees — but only two have fewer losses!
Am I the only one who thinks those rainouts the Yankees must replay later in the season rather than sooner may prove to be a gift from above?
