TYA Trivia Open Thread for 3-9-11
On every weeknight throughout the year, one of the TYA writers will post a trivia question as the nightly open thread. The blog administrators will keep track of the winners, and the commenter with the most correct answers will win a prize that has yet to be decided upon. The answers will be posted in the following evening’s open thread.
Last Night’s Question: This afternoon, Andrew Brackman made his spring debut for the Yankees. If the 6’ 11” right hander makes an appearance during the regular season, he’ll become the tallest Yankee pitcher in history. Without using a database, can you name the eight pitchers in franchise history who were 6’ 7” or taller and appeared in at least 50 games? (Hint: Only one pitched before 1984).
Answers: Jeff Nelson, Randy Johnson, C.C. Sabathia, Lee Gutterman, Tim Stoddard, Dennis Rassmussen, Graeme Lloyd, and Slim Love
Today’s Question: The Yankees have sold a lot of jerseys over the past 20 years. Name the 15 most popular Yankee jerseys sold over that time. Hint: The list includes only players who played during the time period, so no Mickey Mantle / Joe DiMaggio, etc. Bonus points for guessing the order.

Jeter, Bernie, Tino, Paulie, Mariano, Andy, JoPo, Clemens, A-Rod, Giambi, Matsui, CC, Tex, Cano, and Sheffield?
A bit too weighted on the new rather than the older.
I tried spreading them out over the late 90s, early to mid 2000s, and late 2000s… Did I miss Homer Bush?
Jeter, Donnie, Pettitte, Rivera, A-Rod, O’Neill, Bernie, Posada, Tino, Giambi, Matsui, CC, Teixeira, Randy Johnson, Coney?

There’s at least one real toughie that I never would have guessed.
Mike Stanley? Jim leyritz? Joe Girardi?
Keep trying.
Oh, I think I have it. Either Straw or Raines. I’d lean Straw.

Here’s my 2 cents Wetteland, Nelson, Stanton, Joba, Jimmy Key (how old is he 40?), Brosius, Knoblauch, Soriano, Boomer Wells
I personally have Joba’s and sori’s so there’s my 2 cents
How about one more “justice is served”?
From the out of nowhere category Kevin Maas and Shane Spencer
A real toughie….jerseys…..toughie…..jersey…
