On every weeknight throughout the year, one of the TYA writers will post a trivia question as the nightly open thread. The blog administrators will keep track of the winners, and the commenter with the most correct answers will win a prize that has yet to be decided upon. The answers will be posted in the following evening’s open thread.

Friday’s Question: Babe Ruth holds the Yankee record for most Home Runs hit by a left hander (659).  Without cheating, name the four lefty-Yankee sluggers that round out the Top 5 behind him.

Answer: 2. Lou Gehrig 493
3. Yogi Berra 358
4. Graig Nettles 250
5. Don Mattingly 222

Today’s Question: 6’11″ Andrew Brackman is set to pitch for the Yanks in the next few days. Who are the tallest players in major league and minor league history?

  1. Alexander Mermelstein says:

Jon Rauch of the Minnesota Twins 6’11″ tallest MLB history
and if I recall correctly when the Twins sent Fuentes from the Angels there was a 7’1″ guy sent over Loek Van Mil but that’s a guess

This may be a little of topic. But I grew up watching a fair amount of Yogi Berra not his very early years but from the early and mid 50′s on. And I have to believe Yogi had to have hit the most “foul ball home runs” in Yankee baseball history. I know that sounds like an oxymoron statement but anyone that saw him knows what I mean.

Bobby V on baseball tonight has the Yankees struggling at catcher with Martin not being even serviceable from the injuries (he also obviously has no clue who Montero is other than name) and he has the team missing the playoffs and not coming remotely close to the Rays in 2nd by the way he was talking. Color me unsurprised coming from an ex-Met manager.

    • Moshe Mandel says:

martin is still a good defensive catcher and is a major improvement in that department. Valentine is being stupid.

      • T.O. Chris says:

His points were that coming off a hip and knee injury he wouldn’t physically be able to play the position that well and then alluded to the fact that he “isn’t very good” the last few seasons and if he doesn’t hit right away “he’s going to be in trouble” which I don’t really know what that means.

  4. UYF1950 says:

There is a saying, those that can do and those that can’t are commentators.

    • T.O. Chris says:

Also once you go Met… your career crumbles and slowly falls apart to the point you’re stuck in Japan.
