On every weeknight throughout the year, one of the TYA writers will post a trivia question as the nightly open thread. The blog administrators will keep track of the winners, and the commenter with the most correct answers will win a prize that has yet to be decided upon. The answers will be posted in the following evening’s open thread.

  1. long time listener says:

David Cone, Jimmy Key, Kenny Rogers, Andy Pettitte, David Weathers, Graham Lloyd, Jeff Nelson, Mike Stanton, Mariano Rivera, John Wetteland, Tino Martinez, Cecil Fielder, Mariano Duncan, Andy Fox, Derek Jeter, Wade Boggs, Charlie Hayes, Tim Raines, Daryl Strawberry, Bernie Williams, Paul O’Neill, Joe Girardi, Jim Leyritz.

That’s 23 that I’m certain of. I think Luis Sojo is No. 24, and I’m going to guess Jorge Posada as the 25th guy.

  2. eric koch says:

Very touching story. Nice job by Long and the Yanks, and most importantly I hope the girl is doing better.

  4. Steve S. says:

    New York Yankees
    Projected 2011 payroll: $203,410,714 (1st)
    2010 payroll: $213,359,389 Opening Day (1st), $215,053,064 year-end (1st)
    Future commitments: $153.161 million for 2012, $125.911 million for 2013, $76.411 million for 2014, $69.411 million for 2015, $44.125 million for 2016, $21 million for 2017.

    Here’s the spreadsheet from Cots

Yanks will have about 50 mil coming off the books for next year, and that’s without CC opting out (they’re committed, he’s not). Posada is gone, they don’t want a full time DH. Cano has options for 2012-13 which will be picked up. Swisher has an option for 2012, maybe they pick that up, maybe not.

Assuming they bring CC, Robbie and Swish back, they’ll have around 20-30 mil to kick around next year, Where do you see them going?

    • twac00 says:

I don’t see them doing much of anything. If they decide they need to move Jeter off of SS sooner than they originally thought and Reyes proves he’s healthy and productive they could decline Swisher’s option, move Jeter to RF, and sign Reyes. This is an extreme possibility that I give less than 1% chance of happening. Not only is there a very slim chance of happening, but I think Swisher is great for the team and would hate to see him leave.

I think they pretty much just sign spare parts like they did last offseason.

  5. Sean P. says:

Anyone watching the Miami/Orlando game? I hate to say shit like this because it’s one of those things you can’t really quantify and we don’t like that kind of thing but I feel like Miami really has Orlando’s number lately. Orlando is such a baffling team.

    • Moshe Mandel says:

Orlando has no shot at a deep playoff run in my opinion. They’ll see one of the top 3 East teams in round 2 if they get past Atlanta, and they just cant hang with any of them over a 7 game series. As much as I hate it, if I had to make a pick right now, I see Boston coming out of the East. Hopefully Miami or Chicago can step up and prevent that.

  6. Sean P. says:

Yeah they’re a strange team. I don’t understand their roster construction. A lot of, “Woopsiee!” in there.

  7. Sean P. says:

Of course just as I say that, look at this nonsense.
