On every night throughout the year, one of the TYA writers will post a trivia question as the nightly open thread. The blog administrators will keep track of the winners, and the commenter with the most correct answers will win a prize that has yet to be decided upon. The answers will be posted in the following evening’s open thread.

Yesterday’s Question: Former Yankee Alfredo Aceves has pitched well for the Red Sox this spring, and is even being considered for a spot in their rotation. 211 players (100 pitchers) have played for both the Yanks and Red Sox. How many can you name?

Answer: Click here. Congratulations to Brads, who named the most players correctly.

Today’s Question: Sergio Mitre will miss his start tonight with an oblique strain. His injury is a reminder that the Yankee rotation is the weakest this year that it has been since 2008. How many different starters won a game for the Bombers that season? How many can you name?

    Let’s see…Mussina…Pettitte…The Mighty Ponson…Wang… Chamberlain…Rasner…Pavano……Aceves…Geise…

I don’t think either Hughes or Kennedy won any of their starts…

    So I think 9 starters won games…

Kennedy definitely won a couple of starts that year. Hughes did not (although he deserved a win in the last game he pitched in the old yankee stadium but the yanks didnt score until the 8th). I never would have thought of Geise, and whatever happened with Rasner?

Montero had an impressive double today, he showed some of his bat control everyone raves about by going the other way and out of all the things he does well while at bat that is by far my favorite. Way to many young hitters in general but especially with power try and pull everything but Montero is smart enough to know that the HRs will come and you just need to go with where the ball is pitched and no force the issue.
