On every weeknight throughout the year, one of the TYA writers will post a trivia question as the nightly open thread. The blog administrators will keep track of the winners, and the commenter with the most correct answers will win a prize that has yet to be decided upon. The answers will be posted in the following evening’s open thread.

Yesterday’s question: The Yankees have sold a lot of jerseys over the past 20 years. Name the 15 most popular Yankee jerseys sold over that time. Hint: The list includes only players who played during the time period, so no Mickey Mantle / Joe DiMaggio, etc. Bonus points for guessing the order.

Answers: Jeter, Mattingly, O’Neill, Matsui, Williams, Posada, Rodriguez, Pettitte, Martinez, Rivera, Giambi, Mussina, Cone, Strawberry, Clemens

Today’s question: Tomorrow at 2, the NFL owners may choose to lockout the NFL players and put the 2011 season in jeopardy. How many times has there been a work stoppage in MLB history? Name the years of those stoppages. For extra credit, name the 3 stoppages that actually cost the league regular season games. For extra extra credit, can you tell us how many total games were lost in each stoppage?

    1972, 1981 and 1994

This is why I hope Marvin Miller never gets into the HOF. I know the owners share blame, but sorry.

      • Moshe Mandel says:

I couldn’t disagree more. I’m about to go to bed so I don’t really have time to get into it, but Miller not being in the Hall is a travesty. When you change the sport to that extent, and help redistribute resources of the game in a more equitable manner, and break one of the more unfair and ridiculous contractual clauses in the history of contracts let alone sports, you belong. The fact that work stoppages resulted is a function of where the game was before Miller showed up. It shouldn’t alter his contribution.

Just as a hypothetical question is Josh Johnson was available tomorrow what is the most you would offer for him?

I have had some problems deciding what is a fair trade and what my limit would be for such a young, ace, under team control for multiple years with the last part being key.

The other thing that keeps factoring in for me is whether you value him more because of the leverage he gives you with CC at the end of the year or do you not let that factor into the decision making.

    • EJ Fagan says:

I’d offer Betances, Warren, Adams, Laird.

      • T.O. Chris says:

WOW you really hate Josh Johnson!

You gave them a 5th starter, a bench 2nd baseman, a backup 3rd baseman and a high upside low floor not sure if he’s a starter or reliever injury concern.

I’m sorry but you are talking about one of the best pitchers in baseball and he shows it by spanking us everytime we go to Florida, Betances and a bunch of pieces isn’t going to get the deal done.

I imagine you’d have to start with Montero or Banuelos and Betances as a centerpiece to the trade, he is in the class with Felix Hernandez so your going to have to come close to a deal of that magnitude and looking at previous Marlins trades he is at least as talented as Beckett when they got Hanley and Anibal.

I wouldn’t want to trade Montero but I’d hate to give up on Banuelos at this point and I think overall it might be a better trade if you deal Jesus and hope to have Johnson and Banuelos in a future rotation. Maybe if there was someway to trade Gardner and Betances you might be able to keep Montero and Banuelos but I don’t see it, they are going to demand one or the other and Johnson is worth it so it’s hard to argue the point.
