Yesterday’s question: In 2010, Brett Gardner was tied (with Carl Crawford) for 3rd in the AL in Stolen Bases with 47. Give me the six Yankees who have led the American League in stolen bases a total of 11 times since 1914.

Answers: Fritz Maisel (1914) Ben Chapman (1931-1933) Frankie Crosetti (1938) Snuffy Sternweiss (1944-45) Ricky Henderson (1985, 86, 88) and Alfonso Soriano (2002)

Today’s Trivia Question: The Yankees have three rookie pitchers in camp (Brackman, Betances, Banuelos) that project as front of the rotation starters. Name the three Yankee pitchers that have won the American League Rookie of the Year award since its inception in 1949.

I don’t know if any of you are watching this Yankee ST game on right now but I have to say I am pretty happy with what I’m seeing out of Montero behind the plate. He gets compact for a big guy which will probably limit his ability to get after wild pitches and maybe even balls in the dirt but he recieves well and while he isn’t a frame guy he does seem to know how to present the baseball well enough, he certainly is no butcher out there from what I have seen so far.

Id like to see someone get on and steal against him and see how he handles that and maybe a ball in the dirt or two to see his mobility out of the crouch.

Definitely agree. He didn’t look like a natural back there, but neither did he look like he couldn’t handle the position.

He seemed to handle Betances’ curve pretty well and even once had to dive out for a ball breaking way away with very littel problem, I am very encouraged by what I see today and if he can maintain this he could start this year. The sky could be the limit with this kid and I am a very firm believer in him as a catcher in the future, I’m glad we held on to him thus far and let’s hope he stays in pinstripes.

Speaking of Betances he had a pretty good inning of work and the most impressive part of the performance to me was on a 2-1 count he breaks out a down and away swinging 86 MPH change (perfect location) and follows up with a 97 MPH fastball up and away, now the fastball is fouled away but the important part is he was not only willing to throw a 2-1 change he was able to execute it and follow up with a perfectly setup fastball. I have read about him having some pitching know how and using the change and he showed he has no fear about throwing, I think it’s safe to say he is a 3 pitch pitcher and could be a very legitament 3 pitch pitcher.

I tend to look more at execution in spring training and not on the actual outcome every time but how can you not be impressed by Betances striking out the side.
