Via RAB, Andy Pettitte is slated to make his much-anticipated return to the Yankee rotation this Sunday, September 19, against the Orioles in Baltimore. Andy will be limited to 90 pitches, so hopefully he can make the most of them.
Here’s what the Yankee pitching staff did with Pettitte in 91 games through July 18 and in the 54 games since (tables courtesy of B-Ref):
The cumulative ERA is surprisingly only 0.05 higher, but that’s primarily due to the fact that the bullpen’s been so dominant in the second half. If I had access to the starting pitcher splits since July 18, the rotation’s ERA would obviously be a good deal higher without Andy than with him.
Either way, thank goodness Pettitte’s finally back. Now hopefully he can stay healthy and continue being highly effective.
