Joe Girardi just announced it on the post game. Alex will be sent to the 15 day DL to get his aching calf healed and Righty Ivan Nova will be called up and will start this Monday facing Toronto.

With the Yanks not having any days off until this Thursday, and then not getting another one until 2 weeks after that (Thursday (9/9) the idea is to push everyone back and see if struggling starters AJ Burnett and Javier Vazquez benefit from an extra day of rest. This also reduces Phil Hughes’ innings for the year a bit. Girardi downplayed (for now) the idea of having a 6-man rotation, although if Nova pitches well he said they can kick it around.

I’m happy with both moves. However, the fact that they started ARod last night when he clearly wasn’t ready, thus causing a setback and preventing us from DLing him retroactively, was not so smart.

Joe said on last night’s post game that Alex claimed he was fine, and the team doctor gave him the go ahead. So he thought he made a conservative move by starting him @ DH instead of playing the field. Given the info he had to work with at the time, I would have done the same thing. Just didn’t work out, but these things can be tricky.

I just think it’s sad that we’ll have to go with Nunez and Peña on 3rd base. Don’t suppose we have a chance to get Inge on waivers and keep him in the minors after Alex returns and call him up when the rosters expand. Also don’t know if this would be a good move… What do you guys think? Bad idea?

Why would you send Inge down over Pena and Nunez? Nunez goes to the minors when Alex comes back and Pena goes down to allow Inge to join the 40, I would much rather have Brandon Inge on the bench in the playoffs than either of the aforementioned minor leaguers. Pena has been awful with the bat all year and Nunez has one career hit which he got today.

All that said I can’t believe that Inge would get through waivers or be traded, he plays a mean 3B and would allow Alex to DH a lot more and that just doesn’t seem like something another team is going to help us out with. Haha.

Yeah, you’re right. There would be no need to send Inge down. I don’t know why I said that.
I also don’t think the Yankees are getting Inge, unfortunately… Someone else would pick him up before we could. =(

I really am excited to see Nova’s stuff in this start, I watched him earlier in the year out of the pen but you never get a full view of a guys stuff in such a short outing and going against the Blue Jays we will see how well he keeps the ball in the park.

Absolutely, love watching a new pitcher break in. And the Yanks aren’t the only ones who have trouble against a pitcher they’ve never faced, so first time through the league he has an edge.

we have jays then chisox ,who seem to be out of sorts lately , i would skip both javy and AJs next starts with nova and gaudin filling in..lets give these guys arms a true rest and have them ready for a tough september. i rather see gaudin get lit up than AJ..for a game or two if he gets back on track after that..if not we may need to look at nova for a playoff spot.of coarse if he pitches well enough.. We are stuck with AJ for years to come . we need to protect his mind and arm…javy is gone after this year.. boy was i fooled by AJ i thought the big stage here would bring out the best in him …he would get up for the yanks and sox and pitch lights out.. he melts now vs the sox . maybe he is enjoying the NY night life to much..

This must mean they didn’t see enough in Mosley last time out to bring up Miranda i guess?
