I, along with the other guys here, made predictions about the standings and awards for the 2010 season. Halfway through the year (technically a little more), I’d like to check in on those predictions. For another post, I’m going to look back at the “Player to Watch” predictions I made from each division.
Anyway, onto the standings/awards pick:
My AL Playoff picks: Yankees, Twins, Angels, Red Sox. 1-4 here. As of right now, only the Yankees are “on pace” to make the playoffs. The Twins have just been passed by the resurgent White Sox for second place (Tigers in first by 1.0 going into last night’s action). The Angels are 5.5 back of the Rangers (Moshe’s pick) and the Sox are in third, 4.5 behind the Bombers.
My NL Playoff picks: Phillies, Cardinals, Dodgers, Braves. Again, I’m 1-4. I had the Braves winning the Wild Card in the N.L East, but they’re winning the division by three games over the Mets (!!) while the Phillies sit six back. St. Louis is also three games back in their division (the Reds?! Really?!), and the Dodgers are tied with the Rockies for second place, three behind the Padres (Whiskey. Tango. Foxtrot.).
My World Series Pick: Yankees over Braves–Still a possibility. Nice.
My Cy Young Picks: Cliff Lee and Clayton Kershaw. Both are pitching well, but Lee has just been insane. He’s got a video-game like K/BB of over 14! OVER 14! Kershaw, though, is taking a backseat to Ubaldo Jimenez and the first half’s Cy Young, Josh Johnson.
MVP Picks: Not so hot here. I predicted A-Rod and Chase Utley. Utley’s currently hurt and A-Rod, while heating up, hasn’t been 100% A-Rod this season. Moshe was closest in the A.L., picking Justin Morneau, who leads the league in WAR right now.
ROY Picks: Brian Matusz has been “meh” this year, though Jason Heyward was playing very well before being hurt. Matusz likely isn’t going to win unless he just destroys it the rest of the way, but Heyward could solidify his award after coming back healthy in the second half.
Comeback Player: Ben Sheets and Brandon Webb? Swing and a miss. Sheets is underperforming and Webb is hurt. Again. WOMP. WOMP. WOMP. WOMP.
Manager of the Year: Don Wakamatsu and Jim Tracy. Again, I was off. I think we all drank that Mariners Kool-Aid. Tracy’s been good, I guess, but I’m sure the award will go to Dusty Baker or Bud Black for the N.L. In the A.L., Ron Washington seems the likely candidate.
So, yeah, my predictions were pretty crappy. Sorry about that, guys. I guess I left my prognostication skills…somewhere else.

I still feel so cool that I hyped the Reds preseason.
At least it’s nice to have someone recall the predictions that were made at te beginning of the season. Too many bloggers/commentators make predictions, and then conveniently forget them. Thanks for the honesty.
