Now that’s more like it. After a June that saw the Yankee offense slump in every facet of the game the Bombers busted out the lumber against the Blue Jays to the tune of 11 runs. All the damage took place in the 3rd inning, marking a season high for runs scored in a single frame. The highlight was a Brett Gardner Grand Slam (!!!) that put the game out of the Blue Jays’ reach. Alex Rodriguez came up later on in the same inning with the bases loaded. He hit what looked like the 3rd out, but infielder John McDonald was playing left. He lost the ball in the sun and never touched it, turning an easy out into a 3-run double. (A-Rod is sending him a fruit basket.)

The 11 runs would have been more than enough for any Yankee pitcher, but the lead was almost comical in Andy Pettitte‘s hands. Pettitte gave the Yankees six solid innings of 3 run ball, leaving the game after throwing less than 100 pitches. Hopefully the team can build on this tomorrow. Losing to the gang from Canada on our nation’s birthday isn’t acceptable.
