With regards to this year’s All-Star voting, I absolutely refuse to vote for the slumping Mark Teixeira as the American League’s first baseman. Minnesota’s Justin Morneau, who, by about 200K votes, currently leads the voting at that position (at least as of yesterday), is a much more deserving candidate. For a quick comparison, Teixeira is hitting a paltry .229/.346/.392, while Morneau is hitting a Cano-like .350/.460/.636. Really, in terms of pure offensive output, there is no contest (KC’s Billy Butler deserves a nod before Teixeira does).

While we are all Yankee fans, I implore you – readers of this blog – to put aside blind fandom for a little while and vote inline with actual output (defensive and offensive). Mark Teixeira does not deserve to sniff the All-Star Game this season—not the way he’s swinging the bat. Justin Morneau does, however. In fact, he deserves to start and should represent the AL and its fans at first. I’m voting for him and you should, too.

remember this day that you post this one…lets see if you gonna change your mind, hahaha :)

I don’t vote for this joke of a game. That said, maybe I’d vote for Morneau when he gives Jeter back his MVP award. :-)

If you spoke to Mark privately, I bet he would agree.

the point of this is to… show you are a fair, balanced, and level headed blogger? Objective completed.

But fans being fans (mostly casual and fairweather), Tex will still be getting his lion share votes by the end.

I am just surprised the blind faith has not extended to ARod. Did the roid admission really cost him that much in the eyes of the Yankee fans? Or perhaps it is just outside of NY fans that stopped voting for him?

I’d think it’d almost be unfair to Tex to be voted as an Allstar starter. Because all he’ll hear from reporters are questions on whether or not he deserves such an honor. It could be a distraction, not to mention extremely annoying. Tex will probably wind up defending himself the whole time, which isn’t a fun situation for him. I think its best if he took the week off to spend with this family and just come back ready to go in the second half.

I was shocked when i got an email from yankees.com last week asking me to vote for Teixeira. I then went to mlb and voted for Morneau. It would be an embarrassment to yankee fans and Tex if he were to be voted and all star. I’m glad someone is speaking out about this.
