In Jon Heyman’s latest column, he mentions that the Yankees might be interested in David DeJesus as a replacement for Nick the Stick.

“The Yankees are not confident Nick Johnson will be back and sound this year and may consider No. 2 type hitters in trade. The Royals’ David DeJesus, a New Jersey product, would seem to be a candidate if Kansas City is willing to trade him.”

Of course, according to every writer ever, the Yankees have been interested in DeJesus for as long as he’s been in the Majors. And why wouldn’t they be? The guy’s got a .367 wOBA (including a .380 OBP!), is only making $4.7M this year and has a club option for 2011 for $6M. That’s nothing for a guy who has already accumulated 1.6 WAR and has been worth $6.4 million so far this season, according to Fangraphs.

While Yankeeist made some recommendations for filling the void at DH several weeks ago, DeJesus would certainly be heads and shoulders above any of the previously bandied about replacement options.

Unfortunately for Yankee fans, as terrible a GM as Dayton Moore is — and though Brian Cashman has periodically been able to fleece the crap out of some of his fellow General Managers — I don’t know how the Yankees could possibly convince the Royals to make a deal for DeJesus and his incredibly team-friendly contract that wouldn’t cost them dearly in prospects.
