Derek Jeter beats White Sox 6-4

I didn’t see a single inning of this game (as much as I love the Yankees, yesterday evening was perfect drinking-beers-on-your-buddy’s-roof weather), but of course still obsessively followed along via BlackBerry.

Derek Jeter drove in a season-high four runs on the strength of a huge game-tying two-run home run and an arguably huger go-ahead two-run triple in the seventh, leading the Yankees to an important 6-4 win over the White Sox. Why important? Well, for one thing the White Sox suck. For another, as Jay points out this morning, the Yanks get to face John Danks this afternoon, owner of the second-lowest ERA in the American League.

Pettitte apparently wasn’t quite as sharp as he’s been, but I’ll happily take four runs through 6 innings from the big lefty on days when he doesn’t have his best stuff. His ERA ballooned to 2.12, still good for 7th-best in the AL.

Glad to see Alex pick up a base hit yesterday and Tex with two walks, although our big bats are still slumbering. Also, Granderson took another 0-fer. After Curtis’ torrid start, how many people thought he’d finish April hitting just .221?

On the other end of the spectrum, you have Robbie Cano hitting an even .400 on the month of April, and tied for first in the Majors with a .498 wOBA.

Several of the guys on my brother’s daily Yankee e-mail list, “Yanks in ’10,” are getting together for the game this afternoon — including MJR, for what I believe will be the first Yankee game we’ve ever watched together, unless we caught one in high school — and hoping that Home Run Javy doesn’t give us a reason to drink even more than we ordinarily would during a Saturday afternoon contest.
